You’re thinking _refundable_ tax credits. That allows actual cash to those not paying at least that much in taxes.

EV tax credits (no “refundable”) can be applied over several years, insofar as one doesn’t pay that full amount or more in taxes.

Between the size of federal income tax rates, and the cost of buying an EV, vanishingly few buyers would be “getting real money back” out of their EV tax credit even if they could.

Kinda like a pimple on your ass before you pop it. In reality Telsa is an unsustainable company due to the fact we have vast resources of petroleum products to use in our nation that are actually far more efficient. What spins the wheels of electrical generation is in order, natural gas, coal, petroleum liquids. The portion from wind and solar is not even worth mentioning.

As an aside the day of petroleum will be over in the future. It is finite but actually infinite. It will be many generations in the future when this happens. As our petroleum resources in the far future become to expensive other sources of energy will become economically viable and replace petroleum with the exception of specialized purposes. Planes will never fly across the Atlantic with 300 hundred passengers with electric motors. It is all about energy density of the fuel. Unless there is a great technological breakthrough in batteries that would defy physics this will not happen.

It is all about energy density of the fuel be it a battery or Jet A. Political correctness will not defy chemistry and physics.

Stock ....

Remember though what happens to ‘tech’ stocks when the market rolls over. 90% losses I remember people I knew who invested in such things a ways back.

I’d sell out of it right now if you own any Tesla stock.

I was out in my parking lot a few day ago. Two of my guys are standing around fiddling with their phones. Out in the parking lot there are two Tesla model 3’s driving around with nobody in the cars. They are driving them from their phones. These are 30’ish types who have all sort of toys. Have $400K+ houses. They would give up everything to keep the Tesla’s. I don’t think they would ever buy a vehicle from anyone else.

It occurred to me why Xrs and Millennials love Tesla: It's anti-Boomer. They've been ridiculed for lack of car passion, until Tesla came around. Now they have something they perceive as better. "OK Boomer"

It’s valued in the same way Amazon was valued in the early 2000s before it turned a profit. Tye potential upside of Tesla is huge

Remember, Tesla is primarily a battery manufacturer. It makes top line batteries and also good cars. They won’t be the best choice for all occasions, but then a Ford f150 isn’t the best choice for all occasions either.

Correct, moomnan. And if Tesla can succeed in the USA, it will be a massive hit in places where the mileage per trip is far less and the cities are denser

It’s too difficult for them to catch up as they need to completely redesign the car from ground up.

In addition, Tesla would be the battery supplier to competitors

Toyota or GM are big enough to support R&D to do everything better.

Heh... by 2024, estimates are that Tesla will sell 10% of the cars sold in the US. Even with subsidies, the Big Three couldn’t build an electric car that the public wanted to buy.

Tesla’s Shanghai plant went from bare ground to auto production in ten months. Deliveries to customers started this week.

The next plant is going in near Berlin.

I suspect that the fourth plant will be built in India.

IMHO, Henry Ford — though he was a hideous Jew-hater — transformed world society more than anyone in history. In a way, Musk is merely changing the way cars get around. But he’s also transforming access to space, wants to colonize Mars (and I doubt this will actually work, but I’ve been wrong about him before), wants to bore tunnels to carry traffic, AND, he’s having more fun than anyone I’ve ever seen.

btw, hilarious that Cramer uses the $150 rise figure for when he got bullish on Tesla. That was THIRTY DAYS ago.

Why the big debate about these Chinese products?

I consider anyone who purchases a Chinese-made Tesla ($70,000$ - $120,000) to be un-American. Feeding the criminal, totalitarian hand that bites you.

Buy America !

Case closed!

At nearly $500 a share, it’s not surprising:

Owning Tesla stock leads to an experience I like to call the Maalox Roller Coaster. In less than 30 days, I’ve had less than two handfuls of TSLA give me over 1/3 of the gains of ten times as much AAPL, and both are up a lot, AND I have a pretty modest portfolio. The AMD stock (a small taste of that) has just sat there — in fact, it did better before their big announcements this week at CES. The shares were up over $1, now they’re down 40 some cents.

Porsche, one of those much-vaulted “real” automakers, has an electric model, and its claimed range turned out to be, uh, exaggerated.

Phase 2 Of Tesla Gigafactory 3 Will House Battery Manufacturing Facility
October 16th, 2019 by Steve Hanley
According to a report by China’s Global Times, Tesla has completed construction of the parts of its Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai that will be dedicated to producing automobiles. Now it has begun work on “phase 2” of the factory, which will house a battery manufacturing facility. The report does not make clear whether this space will be used to make battery packs from cells sourced from outside suppliers or whether it is intended for cell production as well.
