BEIRUT (AP) The latest on U.S.-Iran tensions (all times local):
4:45 p.m.
Iraqs parliament has voted to expel the U.S. military from the country.
Lawmakers voted Sunday in favor of a resolution that calls for ending foreign military presence in the country. The resolutions main aim is to get the U.S. to withdraw some 5,000 U.S. troops present in different parts of Iraq.
The vote comes two days after a U.S. airstrike killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani inside Iraq, dramatically increasing regional tensions.
The Iraqi resolution specifically calls for ending an agreement in which Washington sent troops to Iraq more than four years ago to help in the fight against the Islamic State group.
The resolution was backed by most Shiite members of parliament, who hold a majority of seats.
Many Sunni and Kurdish legislators did not show up for the session, apparently because they oppose abolishing the deal.

So if the government of Iraq doesn’t want us there, we should stay anyway? Fully disagree. Enough nation building. If these people want to stay in the 7th century, then let them. Its not worth any more of our treasure and lives.
That would result in Iran controlling the Iraq completely within 30 days or less.
Kinda brilliant.
This is the sort of thing that foments an overthrow of the current government.
The only thing muslims hate worse that Jews are other muslims. Shia and Sunni.
When they are done killing the rest of us, they will turn against each other and then finish the job. That is fact. If they could wipe out everyone but muslims with some biological weapon, the Sunnis would then try to take out the Shiites, and vice versa.
Going to be an interesting year.
Did Feinswines husband get any of the work???
Its a bad situation, but this resolution would be a total break of diplomatic ties, as with Iran, since we couldnt staff an embassy with marines. So before we react to anything, we will need to see if Iraq really has the balls to go forward with this threat. In the mean time, we kill terrorist threats.
Iraq gets lots of aid from us. They will cry like babies about that aid being cut off and being treated as an extension of Iran, which the govt seems to have become.
Backing up, any smart team of planners could have foreseen this parliament move as a possible outcome of the attack on the Iranian general. The smart planners are already two steps ahead of this move. Im betting on trump and his planners.
I personally doubt we will abandon our efforts against ISIS in Iraq any more than we did in Syria, where we were not exactly welcomed by the Syrian govt either.
Outstanding!
We no longer are dependent on their oil and sure as hell do not need to risk American lives on their behalf.
This is actually great news. Gives President Trump the opportunity to withdraw all troops.
That's a dumb reason for keeping them there.
The resolution was backed by most Shiite members of parliament, who hold a majority of seats.

+1
I don’t know but wouldn’t doubt it.
Trump probably knew this would happen so now he can GTFO without having to listen to the neocons scream about it. Brilliant!
C-YA!
Betcha John Mc Cain voted Yea on that.
Well they've passed the resolution requesting we leave, what else do you want them to do?
Iraq gets lots of aid from us. They will cry like babies about that aid being cut off and being treated as an extension of Iran, which the govt seems to have become.
Actions have consequences.

So what's the next move? Refuse to leave?
I personally doubt we will abandon our efforts against ISIS in Iraq any more than we did in Syria, where we were not exactly welcomed by the Syrian govt either.
We weren't there at the behest of the Syrian government, we were there to help the Kurds who were occupying part of the country. Now that we've tossed the Kurds over the side were pretty much there for some reason that isn't clear.
Who is dumb? The country that allows US Troops to remain for dollars and security or the US for sending Troops for strategic reasons.
“Why would they do that?”
Because the Kurds and Sunni Muslim people who live in Iraq will be murdered by the Shiites which is what Iran wants.
We needn't bother. The Iraqis will do that themselves.
Please dont throw me in the briar patch
