Virginia gun ownersincensed by harsh new gun control measures being floated at the statehousehave harshly rebuked state lawmakers in a daylong face-off that marks the first skirmish of 2020 between citizens and politicians over gun rights.
It took place in Northern Virginia, at a budgetary public comment event one of four taking place across the Old Dominion that were focused on upcoming funding issues.
Tempers flared between citizens and the legislators to the extent that one of the seven Virginia lawmakers on the panel hearing testimony threatened to shut down the gathering.
The tense, and at many times raucous meeting unfolded on the campus of George Mason Universitya historical irony that was not lost on the attendees.
As a patriot leader in the American Revolution, it was George Mason who authored the Virginia Declaration of Rights later used to frame the U.S. Constitution.

Elaine Wood, a Nokesville gun owner, gestured to the crowd as she chastised the lawmakers, saying, I find it ironic that we are discussing gun control in a building named after George Mason!
That comment set the tone for the day as scores of citizens streamed to the microphone to demand that planned gun control expenditures by statehouse Democrats be scrapped in favor of increased funding for teachers and those with disabilities.
Although testimony was said to be welcome on any Virginia budget issue, most took their three-minute open mic opportunity to criticize Governor Ralph Northams call to increase state funding by $7.5 million for programs seen as a future down payment on extensive gun control enforcement.
Northern Virginia resident Bruce Novitsky of Burke didnt mince words when he asked the lawmaker panel Who are you going to support

Nice!
Go Virginia! This is how you start taking your state’s government back.
And every empty chair in the photos is a Va gun owner that doesnt take the issue seriously. You need to fill it if you live there. No way around it this time.
A lot of attendees should have worn blackface.
The Founders took “individual rights” v the gang, collective, government as far as anybody had taken them. R.I.P. Founders.
I [still] don’t understand how actual written rights are [even] up for debate let alone taken away by the very institution that’s not allowed to “infringe” on this right.
Hands off our guns——at some point we will retaliate. I know that’s what they want as they feel it’s a “win-—win” for them regardless.
Their voice only counts in the voting booth.
We are reaching the point of useem or loseem. If confiscation is not a tipping point, there wont be one.
This entire scenario proves the Left intends to rule, not govern. You WILL obey them!, peasant. It is going to take more than the three minutes they allow you to speak to get their attention. Just like the recent congressional hearings where the chair was obviously and indignantly not listening to what was being said. They will pout and walk away. Their minds are made up. Talking to them obviously isnt going to have much of an effect.
i can’t find any news stories about the hearings.
This is the definition of media bias. They are not “lying” about the hearings, they simply are pretending they did not even happen.
I can’t even find a list of which delegates were AT the George Mason event — this article mentions one of them, and never shows a picture from the front so you can’t even identify them by faces (they probably had name cards, so a single picture of the delegates would have told us)
That’s because the NRA sold us out a long time ago. They have become part of the problem.
They spent their allowance on a new suit for wayne...
In the interest of full disclosure, the NRA has a nice website and they are planning on doing a PR trip around Virginia today and tomorrow.

We wish they were flooding in but they aren’t. Look at all those empty seats, should have been 10,000 people there, it’s a lost cause most likely in VA
“increase state funding by $7.5 million for programs seen as a future down payment on extensive gun control enforcement.”
And gee, I wonder what that $7.5 million could have been done if it had been instead routed to improving youth crisis intervention initiatives both in and out of schools or family counselling services and other means aimed at domestic violence regardless of the weapon(s) used or suicide prevention phone lines? I know this is likely being rhetorical, but obviously the Government and Corporate people have other things on their minds.
that pic was before or after it started. Look at the other pics....no empty seats and the “lawmakers” seats are all full too. Also, they dont allow “standing” and packing these meetings. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a lot more outside. That said, the “lawmakers” will not listen to the people until it gets personal, such as camping out on their lawn.
Yes, our enemies are bringing us this fright and we have two options; fight or surrender. We all have to independently decide what our personal best option is.
Governor CoonMan Northam and the rest of the demoKKKrats obviously didn't want them there.
There were 4 meetings scheduled around the state yesterday, January 2nd - 2 at 10:00 am and 2 at 12:00 pm. This was in the middle of the workday when all good pro 2nd Amendment folks normally are at work on the first day after the New Year's holiday.
And for whatever reason, VCDL (not sure who else) just found out about it on New Year's Day and sent out their VA-Alert email to subscribers.
I got the email when I checked my inbox and posted it immediately on FR at 6:32 pm on January 1st.
There. Fixed it.
VA has one of screwiest recall procedures in the country.
Now I know why.
THe state did very little to advertise — I learned about the hearings on my drive to work thursday, which was too late to change my work schedule.
The hearings were on the first work day of the new year, BUT conveniently still when teachers were off work for the holidays.
The democrats then tried to pack all the hearings with teachers, to ask for more money — I’m sure the teachers unions were given a heads-up on the hearing schedules.
I am happy that so many gun owners were able to mobilize on extremely short notice.
They were represented at all 4 meetings, although the Richmond NBC station worked hard to get a picture at that hearing that ONLY shows the teachers union representatives, who had taken up most of the seats.
