Virginia gun ownersincensed by harsh new gun control measures being floated at the statehousehave harshly rebuked state lawmakers in a daylong face-off that marks the first skirmish of 2020 between citizens and politicians over gun rights.
It took place in Northern Virginia, at a budgetary public comment event one of four taking place across the Old Dominion that were focused on upcoming funding issues.
Tempers flared between citizens and the legislators to the extent that one of the seven Virginia lawmakers on the panel hearing testimony threatened to shut down the gathering.
The tense, and at many times raucous meeting unfolded on the campus of George Mason Universitya historical irony that was not lost on the attendees.
As a patriot leader in the American Revolution, it was George Mason who authored the Virginia Declaration of Rights later used to frame the U.S. Constitution.

Elaine Wood, a Nokesville gun owner, gestured to the crowd as she chastised the lawmakers, saying, I find it ironic that we are discussing gun control in a building named after George Mason!
That comment set the tone for the day as scores of citizens streamed to the microphone to demand that planned gun control expenditures by statehouse Democrats be scrapped in favor of increased funding for teachers and those with disabilities.
Although testimony was said to be welcome on any Virginia budget issue, most took their three-minute open mic opportunity to criticize Governor Ralph Northams call to increase state funding by $7.5 million for programs seen as a future down payment on extensive gun control enforcement.
Northern Virginia resident Bruce Novitsky of Burke didnt mince words when he asked the lawmaker panel Who are you going to support

BTW, some really good comments at the source with more info.
Doesn’t look like a flood to me. They won’t really listen to them anyway. One of our local guys spoke against the gun control resolution our city council passed and one of the cat ladies replied that they could restrict us to flintlocks if they wanted to. They are arrogant beyond belief.
They can try.
A lot has been said about the fact that the DC swamp has taken over northern VA. It is true but how good was voter turnout in the rest of the state in the last election? It hope this gun grab will wake up the rest of the state. The rats have infested the north but if the rest of the state comes out in the 80-90% range they can be beaten back. Times up.
Better start burying or moving your guns to out state storage.
One of the reasons for the American Revolution was King George taking away guns and rights of the people.
Delegates and senators at the table were obviously thinking Look at these smelly Walmart deplorables.
Stashing them from the very people we need them for?
Interesting that although the NRA is maybe 10 miles up I-66, there was no mention of their presence at the meeting?
That's harsh.
I’m a life NRA member (Since ~1995) but Lapierre’s got to go. Speaks volumes they did not represent themselves at a Virginia meeting.
Just did a map app. NRA is 17 or 18 miles away depending on route.
Does VA have a means of recalling their legislators?
Been thinking of advertising a “buy back” program for my neighborhood. Tell them I will pay $3 for any functional semi automatic weapon, $2 for shotgun, $0.01 for each round of ammo. I just wonder how many idiots would fall for it.
You could probably offset your expenditures for guns and ammo by selling “Gun Free Home” property signs. /sarc
Nope. This is your (our) risk dying on your feet or live on your knees moment. What will you choose?
Which leaves the question open, where the heck were they?
the NRA is to RINO's, as the VCDL & GOA is to conservative Trump supporters.
I highly recommend hooking up with the GOA (nationally), the VCDL (Virginia only issues.)
