On Monday, during an interview with the Des Moines Register, 2020 presidential hopeful mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg said drug possession should not result in jail time.
Buttigieg said, Incarceration should not even be a response to drug possession. What I have seen is while there continues to be all kinds of harms associated with drug possession and use, it is also the case that we have created in an effort to deal with a public health problem, we have created an even bigger problem a justice problem, and its own form of a health problem when you think about the adverse aspects on a child. We have kids in South Bend who have grown up with the incarnation of a parent as one of their first experiences.

Folks can follow several links up and find out I was addressing the issue of instating another prohibition on alcohol.
I did not address the issue of drug legalization with that answer.
Thus your response was misleading to say the least.
I have given specific reasons why I don’t think making all narcotics legal is a good idea.
This is the second time you have tried to smear me with an answer related to reinstating alcohol prohibition, when it was not related to an objection to legalizing narcotics. In other comments on this thread I addressed specifically the reasons why I do not think making all narcotics legal is a good idea.
Sorry you didn’t have the tools to be able to grasp that.
And all that coincidentally turned on a dime at the same time Prohibition ended? Pull the other one.
Folks can follow several links up and find out I was addressing the issue of instating another prohibition on alcohol.
Which part of "pro-legal-alcohol" did you not understand?
I did not address the issue of drug legalization with that answer.
You are opposed to the legalization of marijuana, as you've indicated in this thread.
But it is related: when one argues that narcotics should be illegal because they're harmful, and also states that alcohol is harmful, one acquires a logical obligation to either support the illegality of alcohol or give an actual explanation of why not.
LMAO
You crack me up...
If you ask me a specific question regarding wanting to reinstate prohibition, it is specific to that issue.
I didn’t frame the question for you. You did.
You really can’t discuss matters too well can you.
In your mind, you extrapolate out that conclusion, but it wass not a valid intertwining there.
You asked specifically if I wanted a reinstatement of alcohol prohibition. I said no.
On other occasions I specifically addressed why I wanted the prohibition on drugs to remain in place.
Your attempt to state my views on alcohol and drug prohibition were the same, was just sloppy and you know it. I never said or implied my views on drug prohibition was based on a whim.
I hadn’t said I wanted the prohibition on drugs to remain the same without cause.
I did state I did not want to change the status of alcohol at this point. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to shake things up on it. It is what it is. It can remain the same as far as I am concerned.
The only reason I mentioned it was to address the issue of legalization not alleviating all the problems with alcohol consumption. Legalization vs prohibition both present major problems.
My premise is that legalization of drugs will not end all the problems.
Of course not - and nobody here has said or implied otherwise. But criminalization of drugs, like the criminalization of the drug alcohol before it, has limited effect on the extent of drug use, while doing much to enrich criminals with all the ills that follow. Restoring the legality of alcohol was the right choice, and so would be restoring the legality of other drugs. Not so as to shake things up too much; legalizing marijuana is as far as we should go as the second step (alcohol having been the first).
Thanks for your follow-up comments.
I don’t think legalization of pot is going to be as great for society as some folks have thought it would be.
It is pretty much becoming a fate accompli, so hashing (if you will) it at at this point, is not worth the time.
See you on other threads.
