Congress reaches deal to fund gun violence research for first time in decades

Federal agencies will receive $25 million from Congress to study gun violence in a government spending deal reached by House and Senate negotiators — a major win for Democrats who have long pushed for dedicated funding to research the issue, a source told The Hill.

"Democrats have broken the ban on funding for the first time in decades," the source said.

The deal includes $12.5 million each for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes of Health to study gun violence and ways to prevent it.

It’s the first time in more than 20 years that Congress has appropriated money for gun violence research.

Congress stopped funding gun violence research in 1996 after an amendment passed blocking agencies from using federal funds to advocate for gun control.

While the so-called Dickey Amendment — named for its author, former Sen. Jay Dickey (R-Ark.) — does not prevent agencies from studying gun violence, that was its effect.

Democrats last year won an agreement to “clarify” in future spending bills that the amendment did not prohibit agencies from studying gun violence.

Still, leaders at the CDC said they needed specific funding from Congress to study the issue.

More politically correct junk science like the one dedicated to “proving” climate change exists.

Yawn.

By a huge multiple more people die from taking Doctor prescribed drugs and auto accidents than “gun violence”...

What this says to me is they fear an armed populace who can as we are instructed to take our country back when the government becomes oppressive

CDC is bought and paid for by lobbyists and is worthless as an authoritative agency

Yeah. No.

When they find out which specific demographic group is most responsible for gun violence, then they will 86 this report.

Or maybe they won't sample gun violence stats and facts in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Memphis, St. Louis and so on.

I hope R’s got something in return for this... a few things come to mind:

Fund violence against the pre-born, aka murder.

De-fund National Propaganda Radio.

If gun violence is a “disease” or a “public health” matter, can I make my health insurance company pay for my firearms safety training and my sessions at the gun range? Inquiring minds want to know.

They should do ALL their work in Chicago.
Taking bets on Chixago being only 10% of subject cities.

Trump needs to declare another emergency and divert those funds to the wall.

The conclusion will be, of course, white people are a menace and are a danger to everyone, with or without firearms.

What Republican senators agreed to this travesty? The last time the CDC did this, the result was so corrupt that not only did congress stop funding it, but forbade the CDC to do that study.

NB: the public health service can be the most tyrannical and dictatorial government agency, with virtually no limits to their power, in a declared “health emergency”. Military martial law can be far gentler.

CDC and NIH?

Nothing for them to research per guns. We already know that holes in the body can lead to blood loss. We know about lead poisoning too.
