Trump Mocks Global Warming, Lowballs Sea Level Rise
FactCheck.org ^ | December 12, 2019 | By Jessica McDonald

At a campaign rally, President Donald Trump mocked concerns about global warming, saying that oceans would rise just “[o]ne-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years.” Although Trump’s comment may have been a joke - and not intended to be a prediction of sea level rise - his figure is many times lower than scientific estimates.

Trump’s remark came in Hershey, Pennsylvania, during a section of his speech bashing wind power - one of his favorite topics at rallies. This time, the president also jokingly referenced global warming, poking fun at people who are concerned about sea level rise.

Trump, Dec. 10: You’d have windmills all over the place if you had Crooked Hillary, they’d be knocking out those birds left and right. Those windmills, wah, wah wah. Darling, I want to watch television tonight and there’s no damn wind. What do I do? I want to watch the election results, darling, there’s no wind, the damn wind just isn’t blowing like it used to because of global warming, I think. I think it’s global warming. Global warming, no more wind, no more life! The oceans are going to rise. One-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years, we’re going to be wiped out!

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, global sea level is currently increasing by about an eighth of an inch per year, not an eighth of an inch over two-and-a-half centuries. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Trump greatly underestimates the scale of the problem, and his dismissal of the dangers of sea level rise is not based in science.

Don’t see this as a positive.

His record demonstrates his position and helps maintain support. Rhetoric should be for building support with those people who may consider voting for you.

You gain supporters by championing something they feel strongly about, Such as clean air and clean water, and ocean plastic reduction. Both of which Trump has made a point of during his presidency.

Going negative on the issue does not add to your support. There is no need to sell out to the climate agenda but we need to understand it is a big issue with younger voters.

We need to start Dredging the Oceans to make room for all that Water.

Take all that Seabed material to Florida and the Gulf Coast and build a nice Mountain range. Then put Ocean View Houses on top.

“For large parts of that time, during periods of glacial activity, the area of the Great Barrier Reef was dry with large flat coastal plains. “

” This area is at a depth of less than one hundred metres below sea level today.”

In other words the sea level was 100 meters LOWER in the past. 4,000 inches lower.

I’m not going to worry about 1/8 inch per year which at some point will go back the other way!

I can drive faster than the water rising 1/8 inch PER YEAR! I can CRAWL faster than that! Where is the danger?

“IF” this is really happening, SO WHAT? We’ll adjust.

Gee, would that be the same NOAA that was caught manipulating temperature data? All I know about sea level “rise” is that if you look at photos of Liberty Island in New York harbor from the late 1800s, and compare them to today, it doesn’t appear that sea level has changed one inch. That island doesn’t sit very high above the water level, plus the edge of it is very sharply-defined and easy to see in photos, and it is dead obvious from comparing photos that there has been no visible change in water level.

Is their any real consensus on climate science? Of course not. Even the people doing the atmospheric testing and getting the data can’t give a conclusive answer, if they’re being honest, which many of them are not. Regardless, it doesn’t justify the trillions being proposed by the climate, scaremongering organizations being led exclusively by the UN!

Please see Post 27. It’s the best video you will ever see on climate change. This is what should be shown in schools.

https://sealevelrise.org/states/hawaii/:
“Hawaii’s Sea Level Is Rising” “The sea level off Hawaii’s coast is up to 10 inches higher than it was in 1950”

So I guess the sea level off Hawaii’s coast can rise 10 inches but doesn’t rise anywhere else in the world.

In high school in the 1970’s I was told we would all be froze to death by now. Still waiting for that to happen. I bought a warm coat and stuff just in case.

You're going to need them starting now if the predictions (based on actual past records,93 to 97% accuracy) that we will have a mini-ice age for the next 30-years are true.

Check out the articles at this link:

Sea level is measured by “estimates” from gauges.

You see, just like temperature data, sea level data needs to be “adjusted” by certain people and then you know what is the actual sea level change.

Do some searches and you will find clear manipulation of the raw sea level and temperature data (which both show no significant rise or fall) versus the “adjusted” data that always seems to support climate change.

Sounds like the Russia Collusion investigation....the data showed the Trump Campaign was innocent, but the “adjustment” of the data kept the FISA renewals coming in every 90 days.

I noted today that work crews are rapidly building second pears on top of the old one to offset the two feet the Scientist say sea water will rise this year. No word on raising levee height, sure that will start soon. This either happened or Thunberg dreamed it, you pick.

So I guess the sea level off Hawaii’s coast can rise 10 inches but doesn’t rise anywhere else in the world.

You're right, it's total nonsense due to data manipulation. The real story goes like this:

Pacific sea levels rising very slowly and not accelerating

Parker A., Ollier C., 2019. Pacific sea levels rising very slowly and not accelerating. Quaestiones Geographicae 38(1), pp. 179–184. 3 figs.

Abstract: "Over the past decades, detailed surveys of the Pacific Ocean atoll islands show no sign of drowning because of accelerated sea-level rise. Data reveal that no atoll lost land area, 88.6% of islands were either stable or increased in area, and only 11.4% of islands contracted. The Pacific Atolls are not being inundated because the sea level is rising much less than was thought. The average relative rate of rise and acceleration of the 29 long-term-trend (LTT) tide gauges of Japan, Oceania and West Coast of North America, are both negative, −0.02139 mm yr−1 and −0.00007 mm yr−2 respectively. Since the start of the 1900s, the sea levels of the Pacific Ocean have been remarkably stable."

This says that the Pacific Ocean level over recent decades has actually been dropping, super slowly, at the rate of 0.08 inches per century. There are some locations around the Pacific Rim where coastal land is subsiding but that has nothing to do with the ocean level itself.

Has FactCheck.Org ever fact checked temperatures against the exaggerated claims in hockey stick chart? Against Al Gore no more ice in Antartica claim? No more snow in England? Ted Danson’s hysteric claims that the oceans would be dead by 2000?
