At a campaign rally, President Donald Trump mocked concerns about global warming, saying that oceans would rise just [o]ne-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years. Although Trumps comment may have been a joke - and not intended to be a prediction of sea level rise - his figure is many times lower than scientific estimates.
Trumps remark came in Hershey, Pennsylvania, during a section of his speech bashing wind power - one of his favorite topics at rallies. This time, the president also jokingly referenced global warming, poking fun at people who are concerned about sea level rise.
Trump, Dec. 10: Youd have windmills all over the place if you had Crooked Hillary, theyd be knocking out those birds left and right. Those windmills, wah, wah wah. Darling, I want to watch television tonight and theres no damn wind. What do I do? I want to watch the election results, darling, theres no wind, the damn wind just isnt blowing like it used to because of global warming, I think. I think its global warming. Global warming, no more wind, no more life! The oceans are going to rise. One-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years, were going to be wiped out!
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, global sea level is currently increasing by about an eighth of an inch per year, not an eighth of an inch over two-and-a-half centuries. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
Trump greatly underestimates the scale of the problem, and his dismissal of the dangers of sea level rise is not based in science.

....or he would not have bought that $12M oceanside property!
I then move on from the article in question.
Me too !
Nuff said.
Waaaaaa
1/8 a year
Much of Florida is at sea level. So next year itll have 1/8 inch of water over all that?
Why didnt that happen last year?
how do you “FACT CHECK” predictions????
fargin iceholes
Yeah, no lefty reporter thinks it is worth checking as to why all the “climate change” alarmists own ritzy property near sea coasts, especially near California, Florida and New York, instead of further inland.
What petty nonsense by “FactCheck.” Trump was giving a political speech with his typical rhetorical flourishes, not a scientific lecture on meteorology. The point Trump made was correct. Sea level really hasn’t risen very much.
In high school in the 1970’s I was told we would all be froze to death by now.
Still waiting for that to happen. I bought a warm coat and stuff just in case.
Sea level is a function of gravity and tectonic activity and is for the most part independent of weather and temperature. Even if all the ice did melt, the added weight of that water would likely cause some shifts in the seafloor and the resulting change in sea level would be minimal.
his figure is many times lower than scientific estimates>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
What scientific estimates? Those of Greta Thunberg whose science is:
Wait, the science demands that we dismantle all our [c]olonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression? Now, what science exactly is that? Is it geology? Physics? Phrenology maybe? “ **
President Trump knows exactly how high the creek will rise, but je also trols his politic al opponents, and they seem to fall for it every time, like” Wyllie Coyote”
If only the Resistance Congress would follow the President’s lead on infrastructure, soon these Commies would have little or noting to worry about, as the Dutch also have proven. It is this fact alone which justifies any trolling our president does concerning the issue of flooding and infrastructure. It hoists the opposition onto their own spears.
Ask no for who the Prez Trolls.
Our Prez trolls for thee!
Factcheck can’t seem to tell the difference.

He is exaggerating..
Over the last few thousand years the sea levels have been DROPPING. That is why the ancient Greek cities that lay on the coast of the Mediterranean now are a couple miles inland. Same with the old Sumerian cities.
This partisan Democrat wench has an actual PhD from Yale in immunology - but has chosen to go into the failing business of "journalism" instead...
I’ve *never* heard this claim before. Do they realize how much water we’re talking about? Have they disclosed how they’re measuring this? This should be easily repeatable - and by people without a PhD.
It's Poli-Sci, including the ones who couldn't get into a law school.
"For the low, low price of $92 Trillion, we can fix the problem raise awareness like never before. Call NOW, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. But WAIT, there's more. If you call now, you can also bid to be the lucky winner of Kamala's used tour bus, complete with footprints on the ceiling. Or something like that."
