Had a friend from Louisiana went through Canadian customs at the border.

Officer asked how many guns he would like to declare.

Friend said None.

Officer looked at his drivers license again and said "Sir you're from the state of Louisiana. How many guns would you like to declare?"

Friend, "Oh uh two".

Cops ask, “Where are you going at this hour?”

Always say, “Well right now I’m going home, I’ve been at your mom’s house all night.”

They like that.

Cops always have a great sense of humor at 4:00 a.m after working 14 straight hours.

it’s the reverse for me. The Canadian border guards are mostly assholes to me while the US guys treat me better.

"...police are viewing them as suspects,..."

Perps were pulled over for a reason.

Stupid law and besides, you never speak to cops anyway by default (Unless you are a witness). Cops should have to "license" to interrogate stupid people who open their mouth.

I find the following phrases very useful.

“Are you a law enforcement officer acting in your official capacity?”

“I do not answer questions from law enforcement, agents of the state, or the press without the presence of my attorney.”

“What’s the capital of South Dakota?” I responded, “Is it … Pierre?” Then I was told I was free to go. No problem, really.
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
Hmmm answer a question with a question???

I kind of go along with the

How do you pronounce the Capital of Kentucky, “LEWISVILLE of LOUIEEVILLE” and after ‘his choice’ mention

Oh, I thought it was Frankfort.

NO SENSE OF HUMOR.....

In VA we don’t ‘have to’ wear seat belts (Secondary offense..still??) and pulled up to a DUI checkpoint and the Officer walked by, nodded and in a few minutes he was back.
He ‘chewed’ me out for not putting on my seat belt after he gave me an opportunity.

I politely explained to him that in my day if he would have come back and saw my seat belt on he probably would have ‘went up longside of my head’ and accuse me of thinking he was stupid...

I actually agree with this... I am so tired of being guilty of something until I explain to someone who has no right to know any of my business other than the one probable cause for the detainment. Language barrier aside, this “everyone is guilty” fishing expedition every detainment has absolutely got to stop.

For an officer with an IQ of about 75 to try and catch someone up on words and replies from BS ignorant questions as probable cause to further the investigation is BS. There is not one “intelligent” person on this board who has not been through this ignorant low IQ crap... The “officer’s discretion” of someone with only the IQ of 75 playing with sneaky words they don’t even understand the definition of is not intelligent “discretion” at all...

“he didn’t understand much of what the Oregon police officer was telling him.”

Illegal aliens now have a new means to get out of any problem in the criminal justice system. 'Your honor, I didn't understand what the officer was telling me at the time'. Case dismissed.

More common is “Where have you been?” and “ Where are you going?”. Then “Do you know (fill in random name)?”

I have an issue with all non-related questions.

I agree with you. I’ve very pro-LEO’s but respect for each other is a two way street and LEO’s often don’t seem to know the basics of what your rights are, or they try to “word smith” their way around them - which is unethical and unconstitutional.

Saying “you’re suspicious so I’m going to investigate and perform a search” isn’t justified unless they can articulate what you’re doing wrong.

I don’t know if many FR’s are aware but there’s a “1st Amendment Audit” movement that deliberately record their interactions with the police. They’re all over YouTube. The number of times the police tell a lie and violate the rights of the citizen is too often. They often go into a public building, like the DMV, and record with a phone or camera. The employees freak out - call the police. Then the police lie that it is against the law. Anything you can see in a public place can be recorded - this is a 1A right. A sign saying “no phone use” doesn’t trump law.

It’s been quite educational watching them.

They can ask me anything they want. I don’t answer. My rights are delineated in the 5 amendment. I’m polite, give them my license and insurance card, but if they go outside of those bounds they get my standard. “Give me a ticket if you must but I don’t answer questions”.

then he asked me what I did

**************

Tell him that your employment informattion is subject to the Privacy Act and as such is between you and the IRS, and perhaps the Census Bureau which has very stringent safegurands against disclosing such personal data. If he’s not authorized to collect data for either agency he has no valid reason to ask you.

He may continue harassing you but keep asking what authority he has to collect such information. Then tell him you will be contacting your senator in Washington as soon as you get home. He’ll cease this line of questioning immediately because a letter will be sent from the senator to the congressional liason office in CBP causing the guard big time problems.

Same here, I am getting sick of all low IQ officers wanting to be high profile “investigators” trying to trip you up with dumb ass unconstitutional questions. And the extortion and punishment they impose on you with no legal right if you don’t submit and comply fully is really getting old.

I ALWAYS make them give me a card every time I am pulled over. By law they have to give you one. As soon as the questions go beyond their legal authority I ask for the card. Things seem to change when they think you might follow up on their low IQ crap because you have their card.

The problem is the IQ cap, And that they no longer teach or care about the constitutional rights of the citizens. Hence the reason for the IQ cap. They might actually think for themselves, get a conscience, and problem solve the fact that the policies are unconstitutional and “adjust” for this fact.

This self conscience “adjustment” might cut into monthly court revenues and mandated quotas... It’s not good for business when someone realizes that what they do to the citizens is BS from the get go...
