Two Navy instructor pilots told Fox News the December 6, 2019, Pensacola attacker had 10 minutes without armed resistance in which to carry out his horrific work.
Fox News reports those pilots are among a group of instructors who are asking military brass to allow them to carry guns for self-defense.
One instructor pilot said, “It’s so stupid that on a military base, the shooter was allowed to roam free for so long. In a gun fight, that’s an eternity.”
Breitbart News reported that decision to allow military personnel to be armed for self-defense falls to the installation commanders, per Amendment S. 1536, which was part of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2016. That amendment shifted power to authorize defensive carry from the Secretary of Defense to the various installation commanders.
On December 6–the day of the Pensacola attack–Breitbart News reported Naval Air Station Pensacola is a gun-free zone.
The firearms policy for the station, as issued by Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, says:
While federal and state laws differ widely on the subject, regulations pertaining to the registration, transportation, and storage of firearms on Naval Installations in the Mid-Atlantic area of responsibility are clear. According to the instruction, all hands share responsibility for adhering to regulations pertaining to the registration, transportation, and storage of firearms in the AOR.

No kidding! I’ve been in a number of firefights. Most are under a minute in duration. Ten minutes would be a major engagement.
On a base where military officers are being given the skills they need to master flying arsenals that outgun entire WWII squadrons and in some cases carry actual live nukes, they’re somehow not responsible enough to be issued sidearms.

Why is any American military base a gun free zone?
That is just beyond stupid.
POTUS should call top brass on the carpet to explain why soldiers aren’t armed.
“Personal...concealed” is inappropriate for a military base.
“Issued...openly” should be the norm.
Impart the imperative axiom that the US has enemies wanting to attack anywhere, anytime - and do.
Absurd, indeed. I asked before and got no answer - Why did they have to wait for the sheriff’s dept? Where were the MPs?
Poor, poor response. We need immediate increase in force protection. Our on-duty military personnel should be allowed to carry sidearms wherever they are. “Gun-free” zones on military bases is sheer nonsense. The civilian sheriff’s department did good work, but the base security should have had it under control before they ever arrived. Why not!!
Fire that base commander or whoever set the “gun free zone” policy, and assign one who knows what he is doing.
I suspect there are millions of veterans, like me, who are furious about such careless disregard for the well being of our service members..
The Left will propose issuing skirts to be worn on base so that military personnel can lift them and run while screaming for help.
This of course will shame the attackers into showing mercy on them. According to Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi, of course.
And that will last for about 10 milliseconds and then they will continue shooting gleefully.
don’t know how i feel about this- Sadly these days, our military- thanks to the Anti-American democrats, our military has loads of muslims, loads of angry liberals loads of mentally ill gender confused liberals that snap over the most idiotic things-
The military used to be a place where true patriots served- now however, thanks to he destruction of our military force by the left- thanks to kicking God out nearly entirely- our military is now infested with anti-Americans, angry people, foreigners who came here from terrorist nations- etc-
On the other hand, the true patriots i n the military are not able to defend themselves if someone brings a gun on base intent on harm-
It’s a tough situation- one could argue that arming the true patriots along with everyone will de incentivize people bent on harm- but not sure that’s true- some of the folks in the military now really are mentally ill- The left have bastardized the strict recruitment requirements of the military now- to our country’s detriment -

Great Lakes is the nearest military base to me and last time I was there big no guns sign at the entrance.
Talking heads are yappy yappy how he could get a weapon on base. Well, duh, have they even been on a base? The front gates (the ones I know of) are only manned half the time and when they are they barely glance at incoming vehicles. The dozens of other roads in are wide open for any Tom, Dick or Mohammad to wander through with anything. The gun free zones are nothing more than based on the honor system and the fear of what happens if you’re caught.
