Absurd, indeed. I asked before and got no answer - Why did they have to wait for the sheriff’s dept? Where were the MPs?
No Military Police?
Why not military police since shooting was on a military base?
Did the base commander suspend the "Gun Free Zone" to allow the Sheriff's Dept to enter the base with their guns?

Yes, our military does not even fully secure and police its own bases, so any time there is a major incident there is a parade of civilian police cars racing onto the base. Think how nuts that is compared to how other militaries operate. Most of our bases have civilian contractors manning the gates. Even without soldiers packing privately owned weapons, why are there no guard mounts, armed and ready reaction forces, adequate numbers of military police....? Our military thinks that it has become so “professional” that it no longer has time to deal with the basics of soldiership. Using soldiers (and sailors...) to guard their own bases is an affront to their professionalism and inefficient; so are soldiers doing the base landscaping; even polishing their own boots is beneath them. Some of the basic hallmarks of the military lifestyle have been removed and we are left with these “gun free” bases where the law enforcement big dog is the local sheriff. Can you imagine the local sheriff’s department basically taking over a World War II military base in response to a single shooter...?
