Have you served?
Agreed!
And, Boot Camp for all should be as much like Parris Island and MCRD as possible!
I’m retired Navy, but in 1964, when I went through the Naval Aviation School of Pre-Flight in Pensacola, the military portion of our training was staffed and run by USMC Sergeants, the Class Officers were USMC Captains, and the Officer in Charge was a USMC Major.
For 16 weeks, for all intents and purposes, it was as if we were in a USMC boot camp! It was a great intro into the military and outstanding training experience!
OoohRaaah!
He is broke now.....but I suggest an actor who is a dead ringer for this guy to play him in a movie about his life so far. One of the Ashmore twins looks just like him!
Crazy? Nope, he has a real story to tell.
yes
Thank you for your service.
I remember the USS Constitution being taken out on “special” jaunts by the Fraud’s compromised Navy...
No everyone in the US does not need to go through bootcamp to become a patriotic American. Its not fiscally possible with our huge population anyway and the ROI would not warrant the cost even if it was possible.
You know who produces the best patriotic Americans? Parents. We have the greatest military in the world and all volunteers.
Perhaps the soldiers, but certainly not their leaders.
Yes, indeed.
I have long thought something modeled after the Swiss or Israeli system might work for the US...It’s been said of the Swiss...”Switzerland does not have an army; Switzerland IS an army”...
After HS graduation (say 18 yo) all able bodied males receive basic training and then train in a military specialty (infantry, artillery, armor, aviation, MP, etc), followed by a year or two of paid active duty, and after active service, a reserve commitment of several years...
Then remain subject to periodic reserve drills and call up during a declared national emergency or wartime until age 45 or so...Details to be worked out...Admittedly, it would take a major attitudinal shift among American men to make something like this work...
Universal military training and discipline might go a long way to reduce the problems of fatherless boys falling into a life of crime...
Not a cure-all, but might help...Just a thought...
A society of free people last only so long as it has a responsible citizenry. Part of that responsibility is to be prepared to defend that system. Basic military training should be taught in high school; small arms qualification, drill, manual of arms, et c.
The purpose of my suggested boot camp is not to produce patriotic Americans - although that is certainly a desirable outcome, and, will, invariably be a result.
The purpose is to produce American youths who have “skin in the game;” who have an understanding of and appreciation for the sacrifices of those who went before them who made America the Land of the FRee and the Home of the Brave; who have a vested interest in keeping America FRee and First among nations.
My boot camp would also teach boots the true meaning of hard work, sacrifice and would develop both leaders and team players with enhanced leadership and management skills which would enable them to set and achieve worthwhile goals.
I don’t care what your objective is you are proposing an almost identical program to the one Obama tried to push. Its forced labor. This is America. We are free to do what we want. Not be forced into two years of govt labor. Just because you think its a good idea doesn’t mean it should be mandatory. We have the peace corps and the volunteer military for anybody who wants to do public service.
You want skin in the game? How about the income tax and FICA taken out of your paycheck every two weeks?
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree (but not be disagreeable!) with each other on the boot camp concept. It is clear to me that you have your mind made up about it, and so do I, so no good can possibly come FRom us keeping that conversation open.
HST, and just out of idle curiosity, did you ever serve in the military? Or the Peace Corps?
OTOH, I totally agree with you re: the income tax!
I’ve been an advocate and activist for the FAIRtax since 1991 (it was the National Retail Sales Tax, then), and the single best “fixit thing” that President Trump and the Congress could do is replace the income tax with the FAIRtax and abolish the IRS!
If you’d like to help us do that, check out https://www.bigsolution.org and https://www.fairtax.org.
We need all the help we can get!
Check my tagline, please.
PS I was not aware that Ophonybama tried to push this concept.
The ONLY thing Ophonybama EVER did that I approved of was his haircut!
First of all you were not pushing boot camp. You were pushing mandatory service. Second if you are pushing boot camp you might as well push the draft. I urge you to try to understand the concept of individual freedom. The govt serves the people not the other way around. You are a confused individual. I’m not likely to agree to disagree with some misguided theory that we all owe the govt two years of servitude.
I was going to keep this on an even keel, but you have pissed me off!
Yep! Mandatory Service!
America is worth fighting for!
Never in world history has there been a country like America, and if you don’t love America, God’s gift to the world, and are not willing to give a couple of years to preserve it, you should leave!
BTW, I notice that you do not have the intestinal fortitude to post any information about yourself on the “About page!”
ANONYMOUS POSTING IS SAFE, IS IT NOT?
AFAIAC, you have no credibility!
And, you may not be a real FReeper!
My advice to you: BEGONE! LEAVE REAL AMERICANS TO SOLVE REAL PROBLEMS!
