In what way on a court? Do you think it’s more apt to be accepted if it’s a bigger majority?
I think with elections the bigger the majority you get, the more you feel like you have the mandate of the people.
Do you think a 7 2 vote is less controversial and more acceptable to the opposing side?
That would probably make sense.
I just HATE that it was used in the context it was in the article. Like spoiled kids who didn’t get their way.
That image wont leave my head soon!
This is totally ridiculous. If Executive orders cannot be changed then this sets a precedent that a President can MAKE law. No need for congress. If they rule that future Presidents can’t change or alter executive orders then our country is truly over.
Ya think? Roberts is always the skunk in the wood pile.
If the Court fails to permit the administration order, it is ruling that a previous and completely out of term former administration has MORE authority than a current one. Trump should make it abundantly clear that if the Court holds so, a future democrat administration WILL find itself in court when it tries to undo Trump policy, using THIS ruling as definitive.
How about the Dreamers who have committed felonies get deported? (THEY are not the felons just for being here; their parents who brought them here are the felons.)
The only thing laughable is Trump's pitiful and feckless response to federal injunctions.
He sends Deep State, career, Department of Justice, anti-Trump lawyers into court to argue his case. The result is completely predictable - every issue takes years to resolve.
Almost all of Trump's executive immigration powers were legislated in 1952. That's 70 years of “settled” law. Passionately committed lawyers could destroy these injunctions in a matter of weeks.
Trump's DACA lawsuit is incomprehensible. Every court has said the exact same thing - Trump has the authority to write a new policy, but he does not have the authority to declare DACA unconstitutional. Trump is completely free to enforce existing law and deport the DACA kids and their parents, but he refuses to do that.
In the meantime, Trump has issued more Green Cards in his first three years than Obama did, Trump has not cut H-1B visas, and he has significantly increased OPT work visas, which are lightly camouflaged H-1Bs.
Immigration has been my Number One issue at Free Republic since 2005 - because, when you get out-voted in a democracy, nothing else matters.
In my opinion, Trump has zero credibility on immigration.
Unfortunately he, like all most main stream Republicans, stupidly love to virtue signal on how great LEGAL immigration is for the USA when in fact it is a disaster and has put the USA at the point of a socialist revolution.
End it....And let the damn congress do their job.
The President said it before....you have to go back and stand in line if you want to be a citizen.
I just think degree matters in everything. How liberal a politician is. How big a win by a football or baseball team or a SC vote. Life is not just a binary exercise.
I agree. It certainly shows the need for another Supreme Court pick under Trump and one that we can hope will stay conservative once he or she gets the job.
Having Senate majority by three or four is certainly a lot better than one.
On another note, I did not see anything horrific happening from losing the house. I knew it wasn’t good but it’s not like Republicans were doing a lot for Trump. Now with all this impeachment inaanity I see it was very important.
I am not sure but I think you are one who also doesn’t trust the Senate on protecting Trump as much as everyone else here.
I know it’s hard to change 20 Republican Senators mines but the Deep state is very powerful. Or maybe I’m just worrying over nothing
“On another note, I did not see anything horrific happening from losing the house.”
Well there’s impeachment. They won’t remove Trump from office but they will get to tarnish him in the history books. Years from now the main thing Trump will be remembered for is that he was the 3rd President to be impeached. This is by design. The dems know they can’t remove him from office. They just want to hurt him.
I VERY MUCH underestimated how far the dems would go.
That was a mistake.
