Environmental groups and 18 state attorneys general are suing the Trump administration over its efforts to keep incandescent light bulbs on the market. They filed suit against the Department of Energy on Monday, claiming the agency's decision to allow sales of these hot-burning bulbs would hurt the environment and waste billions of dollars.
"The rule is harmful to the environment and also to consumers," said Mike Landis, litigation director at U.S. PIRG, one of the consumer advocacy groups that filed the suit. "In our view, this is an unlawful action the Department of Energy is taking. Once an energy-efficiency standard is set, the agency can't go back on that."
If the older lightbulb technology stays on store shelves, environmentalists say, the added emissions from their use by millions of consumers would be akin to keeping 128 coal plants running for a full year.
The requirements forcing bulbs to be efficient left out specialty light bulbs, including three-way bulbs, candelabra bulbs and recessed reflector lights of the kind often seen in kitchens. These specialty bulbs, which make up just under half of all light bulbs in America, were supposed to be covered by efficiency rules starting January 1, 2020. But the DOE recently moved to exempt them permanently a move that would cost Americans an added $12 billion a year in added electricity costs and more frequent purchases of bulbs, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council.

It used to be a free country...
They are free to have their electricity cut at anytime.
Just say whatever you like. It doesn't have to make sense. You're Fake News. Let the hate flow.
Liberals do not like the free market. That said, my apartment is lit with LED bulbs. So there.
More nonsense from the folks who own the franchise these days.
When B Hussein Odungo came out with this BS, the wife and I bought up a YUGE supply of real bulbs...was looking at the two shelves full in the garage the other day wondering, WTF??
Shouldn’t make any difference to California .... subtract the cost of no electric from the increased cost of incandescent bulb and the argument is moot.
Cooped chickens revolt!
Boy the Left seemed to be intent on running more and more of our lives and taking away our right to chose. That is the scariest part of it is having some higher up tell us what we can and can’t eat, what we use in our homes, what type of car that we can drive, etc... And yes, making it expensive so that we change our habits it taking away our right to chose.
Ya, because they’re making us use bulbs with Mercury dust in them is real safe and environmentally friendly
I hated CFL bulbs. LED bulbs run cool and they last practically forever. I think the technology upgrade is worth it.
I say, let the consumer decide
I have LEDs for most of my lights, but I have a really nice Lutron dimmer sets for my kitchen, dining and foyer that are not compatible with LED, sure I can spend the bucks and replace each light switch at the cost of $50 each about 12 switches, or I can just replace the bulb with a normal bulb that I have stocks of right now. Since I built this house about 17 years ago, these lights have never burned out, the soft on and soft off dimming really do prolong the life of the bulbs.
I like LEDs when they work right and give off a nice light, but these ridiculous a-holes make me want to buy 400 cases of incandescent bulbs and give them away... just becuz'.
When a conservative decides to quit doing something, he/she quits doing it.
When a liberal decides to quit doing something, he/she/it tries to force everyone else to stop doing it too.
Me too...nothing but LED’s in my house!
Besides being ridiculously easy on power consumption, they last for ever, and I don’t have to climb ladders to change burned out bulbs.
Those CFL bulbs are pretty much done these days. I don’t even see them in home depot anymore
Use the lowest wattage LED bulbs and you may not need a dimmer. With all LED’s in my house, my electric bills have nose dived.
People didnt like the spiral shape. Looked ugly. LED A19 bulbs keep a traditional design and are aesthetically pleasing.
Sure tells you where their heads are at.
Like you say, Mercury...
