Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus Liberals held onto power after a closely fought election on Monday but were reduced to a minority government that will need the support in Parliament of a smaller left-leaning party.
The vote showed a deeply divided country with the defeated Conservatives winning the popular vote, while a resurgent separatist Bloc Quebecois made big strides in the mainly French-speaking province of Quebec.

Illegitimate? Didn’t win the popular vote. Will the Media run with this for years with a daily drumbeat? Somehow I doubt it
I think Canadia needs to cut their soy consumption by 1000%
The black-face is now a brown-face. ;-)
We need to build a northern wall now.
Does this mean that Canada is now The Great Blackface North?
serious question because i don’t know- does Canada have an electoral type of system?
No, they have a parliamentary system.
But they have a federal government........
Canada has a parliamentary style government (meaning the executive is formed from the legislature) in which members of parliament are elected in single-member districts like our Congressional Districts.
With three or even four “major” parties, winners in these districts often have less than a majority in their districts.
The winning party, in terms of seats, often has less than a majority of the popular vote, and sometimes less popular votes than the largest opposition party.
It’s a screwy system, but it is based on the UK model for democracy which predates even our own.
Most political scientists and economists who study elections prefer either or both of the German mixed-member proportional representation system, or the Irish transferable vote (or instant run-off) system. In truth there is no perfect system. Our system, with what we call checks and balances, has its own strengths and weaknesses.
So Canada must have something similar to an electoral college if he didn’t win the popular vote.
Anybody willing to explain in more detail?
Before the election the Conservative candidate was neck and neck with Trudeau, and that may still have been the case, but neither got a majority and the splinter parties will support Trudeau.
Actually, those kind of outcomes is why I prefer a strong two party system. The minor parties are seldom winners of the big prize, just spoilers of the ambitions of parties that do have a much larger backing - just not quite enough.
Trudeau wanted to change the Election system in Canada so there is always a Minority Government and he got his wish without changing anything ,LOL
I see the NDP(Commies) got slaughtered
Somewhat. They can give enough seats to the Liberals to pass legislation so expect an even more leftward Canada for now. The provinces have somewhat more power than US states do so any opposition will have to come from them to counter the Lib NDP.
If we had an electoral system, the liberals would never be in power again.
Alberta and Saskatchewan need to secede now. I would happily grant them statehood.
Probably Manitoba, Yukon and Northwest Territories too.
Canada has the government it deserves.
No that is not in any way shape or form, praise. Most Canadians are Biblically STUPID.
My takeaways are:
1) Canada is now alt left. Further left than the Cretien years
2) You can’t win being a pro life leader of a party. Canadians have no problem with baby butchery
3) We tried running left of center and even that didn’t work
4) You can be a racist and a crook, but if you are good looking enough Canadians will vote for you.
