Cuomo signs measure allowing New York to press charges despite presidential pardon

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed a measure Wednesday permitting New York state to press charges against those who have received presidential pardons.

The measure was passed to prevent President Trump's ex-aides facing prison time or potential sentencing from receiving pardons and avoiding criminal punishment, NBC News reported. The network added that the legislation was a direct response to the president's consideration of giving his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, a pardon.

Manafort is serving in a federal prison after being convicted on bank fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy charges. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has also indicted him on state mortgage fraud charges.

The New York State Assembly and the state's senate passed the bill in May.

It ends the "double jeopardy loophole," which prevents people from being prosecuted for crimes the federal government has already tried them for, according to NBC News. Under the legislation, state prosecutors can charge defendants who worked in the president's administration, campaign, nonprofit or businesses -- including those pardoned by the president -- if the alleged crimes occurred in New York.

Double jeopardy loophole! Now Democrats are proud to have repealed our protection against it.

In NY, you can now be punished TWICE for the same crime if you happen to be a political enemy of theirs.

Got it.

I am looking forward to the day Cuomo is indicted second only to the day he is convicted.

How about the day he visits his dad?

They will do away with elections and democracy. For Democrats, the end justify the means.

And they will not stop until they have absolute power over all of us.

Huh? What’s the point of the 10th amendment if a state cannot enforce their own laws. Hasn’t a Presidential pardon always been a fed issue?

A state can enforce its own laws. But NY is going further than enforcing its own laws.

NY Democrats want to use them to persecute their political enemies.

Hi.

If true, that would be considered an ex post facto law and a Bill of Attainder.

The Cuomo Klan are like Sadaam Hussein, despots.

What’s the point of the 10th amendment...

What is the point of our entire legal system if the States are allowed to place defendants in double jeopardy for politicized "crimes" which have already been settled at the Federal level?

Pick one venue or another and stick with it.

California and New York. Book-ends.

Gulags had more going for them than these two states politically.

Both are on paths of financial devastation and social upheaval.

Fly-over country should think twice before bailing their butts out again when the time comes.

'politicized "crimes" which have already been settled at the Federal level? '

That would be a 'federal crime' which might be legal/illegal in a state. That's the point.

I wonder if they have genocide in mind?

It punishes people by fiat. The determination of guilt is going to be made by Democrat state prosecutors behind closed doors.

Whether they’ve evidence of a crime doesn’t matter. They can ruin your life just by indicting you.

Its no joke.

"New York has been completely trashed by the leftists."

It's only gotten worse since the Democrats took over both houses of the state legislature. They've run amok.

They should be given the same treatment as Qusay and Uday. Now that was a grand sight!

I can't wait to hear the Democratic pigs squeal when this law is used against them. Remind me about all those felons and drug dealers pardoned by Obama and Clinton.
