Some House Democrats are privately calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to hold a vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry to undermine Republican criticism that the process is illegitimate, Politico reported this week.
So far, Pelosi has refused to schedule a vote, arguing that the Constitution and House rules do not require the lawmakers to do so.
Meanwhile, the White House and its Republican congressional allies contend that such a vote is necessary to legitimize the inquiry per the recognized standards of previous impeachment efforts.
Politico reported:
Some Democratic lawmakers and aides have begun to say privately and, to a lesser extent, publicly that the House should just vote to formalize the inquiry, robbing the GOP of its main talking point.
Though a small but growing chorus of Democrats has started urging a vote simply to undercut this GOP talking point, others say that nothing will stop Trump and his supporters from claiming Democrats efforts are unfair and inconsistent with past impeachment procedures. They say the party shouldnt take the White Houses bait, arguing that the presidents defenders will simply find other reasons to not comply with the inquiry.
The private debate on whether or not to hold a vote is threatening to cleave Democrats unified front in favor of impeachment, the news outlet added.
Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) publicly called for a vote, telling Politico,If Nancy asked me, I would say sure, lets have a vote. Everybodys on record, so theyre not going to vote any differently. Whats the danger in having a vote to formalize it?
House lawmakers voted to allow an investigation into whether to impeach President Bill Clinton and President Richard Nixon. Republicans have pointed to those votes as evidence that Democrats are acting in an unfair and illegitimate manner.

She won’t.
Im sure the Trump-district Democrats would love that.
I’ve heard that legally speaking, this is a needed step. Among other things, it would allow for the Republicans in Congress to have subpoena power, and allow them to be involved . As of right now, without this formality, only Democrats are allowed subpoena powers, and they have conducted proceedings in secret, because it’s not actually a legally authorized proceeding yet.
If Nancy has the votes, bring it on.
That’s not even the biggest part.
It would CRUSH many dems in districts that Rs can win but that Ds hold now.
Do it.
Do it.
Do it.
Do it.
Bring it on, a$$holes!
She does not have the votes.
It appears to me that this Impeachment/Kangaroo Court/Salem Witch Hunt BS is going to fizzle out and won’t even get to the Senate.
If the Dems vote to impeach, act to arrest.
the Dems don’t want a vote for three reasons:
1. it gives the Pubs the right to subpoena witnesses
2. it puts ALL Dem House members permanently on the record whether they support impeachment or don’t support impeachment or waffle on impeachement
3. the vote might actually fail if enough House Dems won’t for it ..
Privately? What are you pukes afraid of ?
Dems are getting tired of their lies being trounced by the truth. So they’ve decided it’s better to plot in secret, then spring the trap when they’re ready.
They’re too stupid to realize that the more they connive, the tighter the noose will be pulled around their own traitorous necks.
Inquiry vote.
Not a vote to impeach.
Dems cannot even hold an Inquiry vote.
I do agree that Pelosi doesn’t want to give Republicans to power to subpoena witnesses like Hunter and Joe Biden. Democrats may eventually do an impeachment inquiry vote but only if they can vote for impeachment before the Republicans have a chance to subpoena Hunter Biden.
