Boris Johnson has personally lobbied Donald Trump to scrap tariffs on single malt whisky that threaten thousands of Scottish jobs after facing demands to intervene.

OK, I get the retaliating over the Boeing/Airbus dispute but what is this about "French brandy and cognac are not affected by the penalties." Why are Scotch whisky producers in the UK getting stiffed but the French aren't?!?

I’ll drink to reducing Scotch Whiskey tariffs...

I have no problem at all with us negotiating with the Brits on trade. “You do this and we'll do that”.The goal,of course,is an agreement which benefits both sides.

$13 for a bottle of whisky?! Either it tastes like vagrant piss or the ‘sin tax’ we pay on booze in Britain really kicks the consumer in the balls.

This is weird, I just poured a dram of The Balvenie when I came across this thread.

Note to Boris: Brexit first, pal. If you don’t, whisky tariffs will be the least of the UK’s problems.
