Turkish jets struck a Kurdish base near the Iraq-Syria border late Monday night, the first grim fruits of President Trumps decision to order US forces out of the way a decision we fear Trump will come to regret.
Well grant that the president is delivering on a campaign promise here: Like most Americans, he doesnt want this nation serving as the worlds policeman; other countries should share more of the burden when it comes to both troops and money.
Or, as he tweeted Monday, it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars.
He has a point, big-picture but hes making a big mistake here. Leaving Syria puts multiple US interests at risk. Hes not putting an end to endless wars, hes planting the seeds for future ones.

So? You really think Trump is going to order our planes to shoot down Turkish aircraft?
You are missing the fact that Trump understands money better than any previous Pres and the whole neocon group. That was just in jest as to his wisdom even though it is not far from the mark. Like I just said:
Trump doctrine: If they piss you off, bankrupt them and make money doing it leaving them pennyless.
Previous doctrine: If they piss you off bomb them and send our people to die and spend an assload doing it.
It's a bit more than that, and they've been providing artillery support and airstrikes for the 60,000 Kurds and Syrians who have been fighting Isis and Assad. All that goes away now.
Now I just heard 50 - 100 on the TV
Let's hope Erdie, the EU, and NATO know better.
China for example: $23 trillion hit on their economy while ours is up $13 trillion. You think a kinetic war with China is even possible without global extinction? People are not seeing the forest for the trees. Trump is at war with China but his way and he is winning bigly. Not a single bomb dropped. Not a single live lost. The supply chain is fleeing China. They are a mess.
The Kurds are no more our friends than the Saudis.
I used her and she used me and neither one cared.
Bob Seger.
Oh and as a sweet bonus to economic war, you can war on an ally that pisses you off without raising a stink. Euroweenies are in the cross-hairs and that 7.5 billion WTO ruling is going to be fun. The Weenies have to sit there and take it and can’t retaliate. Carefully crafted tariffs are going to royally piss off the “right” people who wield the most political clout in Germany, France, Spain etc. and Poland being exempt as a real ally is going to make blood boil.
Meanwhile China has a really big problem in Hong Kong. Although the peaceful demonstrations are being hyped into riots by our media, the reaction is restrained to an extreme.
The China problem at present is not economic collapse but rather the Hong Kong freedom disease escaping into the young and prosperous neighboring Pearl River Delta region.
The double whammy of economic problems and internal dissent must ultimately result in change.
Xi must decide. Kill the people or kill the old communists
The Kurds have had decades to defend themselves. It ain’t our job.
Not to mention Pig Ebola and the Army worm putting severe stress on the food supply. China has a “Perfect Storm”
Trump was supposed to impose sanctions on Turkey over that minister about a year ago. Whatever happened to that? And when Congress mandated sanctions on Turkey over that purchase of Russian military equipment Trump dragged his feet over imposing them. It's been a mixed message to Erdogan so far so why should he be afraid now? He no doubt figures that he can go in, wipe out the Kurds, and the blowback will be short term and manageable.
Yep
This popped about 30 minutes ago on Trump’s Twitter feed...

We may be in the process of leaving Syria, but in no way have we Abandoned the Kurds, who are special people and wonderful fighters. Likewise our relationship with Turkey, a NATO and Trading partner, has been very good. Turkey already has a large Kurdish population and fully....

.....good health, at my request, Pastor Brunson, who had many years of a long prison term remaining. Also remember, and importantly, that Turkey is an important member in good standing of NATO. He is coming to the U.S. as my guest on November 13th. #ENDENDLESSWARS
You miss the real might of the US. Our real might isn’t military per se. It is that we can afford the mightiest military. Trump is merely using our real might and bypassing the military option. It is higher level thinking.
Impose sanctions? I have one word for that: INSTEX. If you know what that is, you know bloody well what I’m getting at.
You’re also assuming that smashing the Kurds would be something that Trump, in his great and unmatched wisdom, considered off limits. I haven’t seen anything in his comments or tweets that indicate that. He knows what Erdogan is going in there for.
Trump could crash the Turkish stock market with a single tweet.
Trump knows it. Erdie knows it. So does the EU and the rest of NATO.
Your post brought to mind the term “kinetic” Kinetic is the fashionable for a shooting war.
There needs to be a term for the Trump effort. Potential is no good because the effort is real. Passive is nogod because there is some action.
When is war not war but a destructive real process?
Is the hog disease natural or biowar?
How have we not abandoned the Kurds? We’re withdrawing all support on the ground and in the air, leaving them to Erdogan and his army. Yes Turkey has a large Kurdish population and throughout it’s modern history Turkey has gone out of its way to suppress them to the point that they don’t even allow them to be referred to as Kurds, they’re “easterners”. Kurdish speech, dress, and culture has been under attack by the government for over 100 years. The result has been a powder keg that the government has to continue sitting on. Kurds over the border make that job just that much harder, so of course Erdogan want’s to remove them as a fighting force. And now he has Trump’s OK to do it.
