Trump allies blast decision to withdraw troops from Syria
Yahoo News ^ | 10/7/19 | Dylan Stableford

Graham said that he and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., plan to introduce “veto-proof” bipartisan sanctions that will call for Turkey’s suspension from NATO if it invades Syria and attacks Kurdish forces.

“This decision to abandon our Kurdish allies and turn Syria over to Russia, Iran, & Turkey will put every radical Islamist on steroids,” Graham added. “Shot in the arm to the bad guys. Devastating for the good guys.”

Nikki Haley, Trump’s former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was unequivocal in her criticism. We must always have the backs of our allies, if we expect them to have our back. The Kurds were instrumental in our successful fight against ISIS in Syria. Leaving them to die is a big mistake. #TurkeyIsNotOurFriend

I have to say, I know a lot of ex-military friends of mine who are not happy about this decision. People who were career soldiers and whose opinions I respect very much. I'm all for not being the world's police, but this doesn't look good.

As a concerned conservative, I am conservatively concerned that we are refusing to allow the tail to wag the dog in this obvious setup.

Ask those ex-military friends of yours why the hell the U.S. was in Syria in the first place.

The EU could stop Erdie in his tracks, but they won’t.

If our so-called allies are aiding and abetting genocide, we have no biz getting involved in a military conflict.

There are better ways, economic ways, of dealing both with the EU and Turkey.

P.S. — No offense, but the introduction of the term “career soldiers” into our lexicon is a big reason why this country is in the sh!tter right now. If you read the Constitution, you see that this country was never intended to have a permanent standing army.

This is one where I have to disagree with the president. The Kurds did more of the fighting than anyone else to defeat ISIS in that area, and we should keep the small number of troops in place to show that we continue to support them.

Bunch of liars

Which set it up so that the 2nd rate, 3rd tear back benchers can come in and act as the clean up clue

That’s right the clean up clue

They have sacrificed absolutely nothing over the last 20 years

It is beyond high time that they step up and do some of this dirty work themselves

It’s not as if we didn’t come in and clean the place up

Now, we’re just asking that they put a fresh coat of paint on it

Oh boo hoo

Great move by Trump....but terrible timing for it, just as he needs Senate allies to fight Pelosi and Schifty.

Flimsey Grahamnesty and Nikki Haley are not Trump allies, they are Bush League Republicans, still hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico.

I will pray for the Kurds, but we cannot trust our allies.

That’s why we don’t intervene militarily in Syria.

No offense, but that’s a silly comment and you know it. No one in their right mind would advocate abolishing the Army or the Armed forces.

When you’ve been a soldier for 20+ years, fought and killed many of our enemy and been severely wounded while doing so, you’ve earned the right to speak up. Maybe they are “indoctrinated” by their surroundings but that’s understandable and to a certain extent, we all are.

But as I said, these are friends who have risen to the ranks of Colonel and General in the Army and General in the Air Force. Lots of different people, all who would describe themselves as A-political. They see this the same way.

Another potential vacuum being created. I’m just saying, it’s worth listening to and contemplating.

And Linda, if you are suggesting that we can trust the same people aiding and abetting Iran, you are a LIAR.

Northern Syria has become an autonomous democracy with Kurds, Christians, and Muslims all participating in the government. Once Turkey invades there will be a slaughter of both the Kurds and the Christians - both are strong allies of the US. While I support Trump on most things, this is not a good decision.

Well, that is the other issue. We’re talking 1,000 guys. Not a massive deployment. If that’s all that can truly make a difference, then why not?

Do we really want Iran backing the Kurds? Or worse?

Maybe it’s just as well that Graham & Haley show their colors now rather than when more is resting on their support.

Do the war hawks like Graham want to kick Turkey out of NATO? I haven’t heard them suggest that.
