Andrew Kohut, the founding director of Pew Research Center and its president from 2004 to 2012, was one of the nations leading pollsters. He died in 2015. ... Here is one of those articles, originally published on Aug. 8, 2014.
Forty years ago today, Richard Nixon announced his resignation from the nations highest office, making that decision in the face of almost certain impeachment by the House and plummeting public support, as a majority of Americans called for his removal from office. But it happened in stages.
Nixon had won reelection in 1972 by a landslide and began his second term with a lofty 68% Gallup Poll approval rating in January 1973. But the Watergate scandal which started with an effort to bug the Democratic National Committee office at the Watergate Hotel and subsequent efforts to cover it up quickly took a heavy toll on those ratings, especially when coupled with a ramp-up in public concerns about inflation. By April, a resounding 83% of the American public had heard or read about Watergate, as the president accepted the resignations of his top aides John Ehrlichman and H.R. Haldeman. And in turn, Nixons approval ratings fell to 48%.

As long as the economy remains humming in 2020, voters in MI, PA, WI, NH, and MN won't give a rip about the Ukraine or Biden even IF Trump is impeached. Indeed, I suspect Trump has a series of plan Bs and plan Cs to be shared with Dems (oh, a dossier on Clinton and a few select high-ranking Dems) that would make them think twice about pursuing this sham.
There was NOT ONE slightly conservative news outlet in the 70s it was ONLY the MSM!!
Maybe US News&World Report. But no outlet that had any mass influence
Twitter is king! 70 million feeding on hundreds of conservative sources.
MSM is dead to us. The corporate media is an echo chamber to the left.
Thats why polling is dead too. The real numbers are found in the social media realm and twitter delivers at the speed of light. We had details on the changes in the whistleblower documentation today and its all around the country in just seconds. We knew long before Fox had it.
Dont be fooled. MSM is an echo chamber. They know their constiutiency and they program their tabloid propaganda to keep them coming back.
The Hill is the biggest nest of lying pigs on the planet. They make CNN look honest. As for Nixon, the 55 mile an hour speed limit during the summer of 1974 made people hate his guts.
Deep Throat was a FBI goon too. Some deep state hack who hated the president and wanted to overturn the election results.
I’m with LS.
1. This is not Watergate.
2. Today’s media have minimal public trust among swing voters (or they would not be swing voters).
3. The “Impeach” mantra has weakened the democrats. If they actually had justification (and I haven’t seen any good excuse yet), no one would believe after they f=cried wolf so many times.
Concern is lovely, but this is not the time for it. Rather, it’s the time to go on the offensive - challenge seriously for every House and Senate seat that is anywhere near competitive and more the entire election to a referendum on Trump’s policies rather than local issues. Impeachment without a crime helps decent Americans beyond measure.
