Republicans see impeachment backfiring. Democrats fear they may be right

Reuters) - Having his morning coffee and cigarette outside a Starbucks in one of the most politically contested counties in the United States, Richard Sibilla recoils at the memory of President Donald Trump's election.

But impeach him now? Sibilla can see little upside.

"After this he has a much better chance of winning another election, as scary as that sounds," said Sibilla, 39, a resident of Pinellas County, Florida, who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. "It's not even worth following because it's all going to help him."

Among the public, interviews with more than 60 voters across four of the most important counties in the 2020 election showed Republicans largely confident the impeachment process will backfire and Trump will win re-election. Democrats, on the other hand, are worried they may be right.

Marc Devlin, a 48-year-old consultant from Northampton County, Pennsylvania, said he expects the inquiry to "incense" supporters of the president. "This is my fear, that it will actually add some flame to his fire with his base," he said. "I just fear 'party over country.'"

me neither. they’re leftists, pure and simple ... there’s no such thing anymore as a classic liberal in the Democrat Party ...

It would be interesting to know what are the discovery rules in such a trial, for example, as to the defense of Giuliani’s backchannel involvement, was there major criminality in the Bidens’ Ukrainian activities, and therefore, could communications of Joe and Hunter be subpoenaed? Giuliani is not just the President’s lawyer, he’s a world-class expert in international corruption, and the President’s job includes fighting corruption.

The Senate would have to act on a trial, but that could be done with relative dispatch. McConnell would be able to set either broad or narrow parameters on which evidence/witnesses is admissible. The fly in the ointment is maintaining 51 GOP senators to go along with how each item is dispensed. That’s no sure thing and how it plays out would affect the length of any trial. But I don’t see any way 67 senators vote to remove Trump from office. That’s a bridge too far.

I hear the Dems in the House plan an Articles of Impeachment vote around Thanksgiving, but I still believe that may be a smokescreen. There is simply no ROI for Dems to pursue this - but I speak as a rational person, so who knows what goes through their tyrannical minds?

You can’t impeach the President of the United States because he makes you sad and cry all of the time. Check the Constitution. It’s not in there.

Oh Boy, somebody better break this to that parody Schiff.

The amount of times they use the word “like” to describe what they are trying to saying is downright scary for someone who is paying lots of money for this supposed to be a good education.

Who knows. The Thanksgiving Timeline they are proposing were talking about seems a little off to me. When do you wanna wait until everything you need and not take an arbitrary time frame?

I was contacted by a leftist recently.

He voted for Hilary and is appalled at the way the culture and the politics are going.

He is going to vote for trump.

Yeah, the sole ‘Republican’ quoted in article who voted Trump 2016 but is now highly incentivized to impeach for unnamed offenses sounded purely fictional.

Attention whistle blowers!

If you think you were forced/involved in any unlawful activity as a result of a directive from Mr. Obama, Biden, any Clinton, Brennan, Clapper, Rice, Comey, Mueller or someone doing their bidding, now is the time to report it.

800-572-2249

Office of Special Counsel (OSC) is an independent federal agency that interprets, investigates, and prosecutes cases of prohibited personnel practices brought by government employees. The OSC operates a confidential Whistle blower Disclosure Hotline (800-572-2249) and also accepts disclosures by mail.

As it turns out, the Constitution's only stipulations about an impeachment trial is that it declares the Senate to be the only venue where impeachment trials occur and that the Chief Justice is the presiding judge. That's all. It doesn't even mandate that a trial take place nor give guidance as to when it occurs.

This is someone else's great idea. McConnell could even postpone an impeachment proceeding until after the 2020 election using the rationale of letting the electorate keep or remove Trump as opposed to having the Senate do it. It would keep members from having one less thing to answer to the voters over.

Postponing it is a great idea. Unfortunately, McConnell has already said the Senate would immediately go into impeachment mode if the House sends articles.
