On Tuesday evening Nancy Pelosi made one of the most colossal blunders in the modern history of American electoral politics. Rejecting the accumulated wisdom of a long and successful career in the House of Representatives, she set aside her own instincts and announced the beginning of formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump on the basis of a third-hand rumor about a phone call with the president of a Eurasian republic.
Pelosi knows this will not be popular. She knows more than that. She knows that it will be a disaster for the Democratic Party, that it will inflame the president's base and inspire even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage.
She knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment does not poll well.
She knows, further, that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the vice president's record in office will not rebound to his credit. She and her fellow Democratic leaders had better hope that someone like Elizabeth Warren manages to steal the nomination away from him before this defines his candidacy the way that Hillary Clinton's emails and paid speechmaking did during and after the 2016 primaries.
Why? Because her hand has been forced. The same members of her caucus who have clamored for Trump's impeachment on the basis of his immigration policy, his non-existent collusion with Russian authorities during the last presidential election, and his ownership of various hotels have once again lighted upon high crimes and misdemeanors.

Pelosi is not to blame for this. She had every finger on her 2 hands and half her toes plugging holes in the dykes (pun intended) to keep back the flow of impeachment threatening to collapse the dam.
Pelosi lost control of the House to the radical communists veteran and freshmen Rat members long ago. She put this off as long as she could. She just lost time to run out the clock.
But yes, never interrupt your enemy when she is making a mistake.
Trump’s re-election is now guaranteed. He hardly needs to run. He just won a 2nd term today.

The transcript and what the whistle blower reported probably will only agree on one point...that there was a phone call between Trump and Zelensky. I expect the whistle blower embellised what he’d heard rumored.
This has NO effect on SCOTUS. None. The Senate goes on with their work no matter what the House does. If Bader-Ginsberg dies tomorrow, McConnel will approve whoever Trump nominates for SCOTUS. The House Kindergarten activities won’t slow that down one wit.

I hoped Our President would retract his offer too make the transcript public once loonynanc publicized her intentions. Let the media/dems roll with this for a week or two to further inflame those of us who recognized Our President as one of, if not THE greatest presidents in history. His speech before the un today was beyond magnificent and the media has ignored it. Once the left is foaming at the mouth over ukrainegate, drop the transcript to illustrate their insanity.

I have been watching replays of Nan’s impeachment announcement today. Will someone please tell me what in the world is wrong with her left eyebrow? She has a horizontal black line coming from her brow and going straight down the side of her temple. Is this an illusion, an eyebrow pencil failure, a scar or is her face falling apart?
As Rich Zeoli has been saying, he thinks Trump is the leaker. Set the trap and they fell for it as usual. Now Biden is toast, their only hope.
Just so. I think Pelosi's pretty cagey though. I hate nearly everything that comes out of her mouth but I have to concede she's a shrewd politician. And I think Andrew McCarthy's analysis of her move is also shrewd. He points out that just because the impeachment inquiry is now "official," it doesn't mean she'll do anything. He sees it as a way of her appeasing the zealots in her own party while keeping the issue alive to damage Trumps re-election.
