On Tuesday evening Nancy Pelosi made one of the most colossal blunders in the modern history of American electoral politics. Rejecting the accumulated wisdom of a long and successful career in the House of Representatives, she set aside her own instincts and announced the beginning of formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump on the basis of a third-hand rumor about a phone call with the president of a Eurasian republic.
Pelosi knows this will not be popular. She knows more than that. She knows that it will be a disaster for the Democratic Party, that it will inflame the president's base and inspire even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage.
She knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment does not poll well.
She knows, further, that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the vice president's record in office will not rebound to his credit. She and her fellow Democratic leaders had better hope that someone like Elizabeth Warren manages to steal the nomination away from him before this defines his candidacy the way that Hillary Clinton's emails and paid speechmaking did during and after the 2016 primaries.
Why? Because her hand has been forced. The same members of her caucus who have clamored for Trump's impeachment on the basis of his immigration policy, his non-existent collusion with Russian authorities during the last presidential election, and his ownership of various hotels have once again lighted upon high crimes and misdemeanors.

That’s possible. They don’t have the votes in the Senate to remove Trump from office, but they may be able to convince four Republicans to commit not to vote for Trump’s nominee while the impeachment proceedings are ongoing.

With another power vacuum looming, there was nothing left for Dems but to impeach.

She also knows she has complete top cover from the GOP Senate. Biden Jr. will not be subpoenaed and required to testify now. He will be given months to prepare his story and destroy evidence, no doubt.

Unless the goal is to rid the party of the AOCs, because they are the ones who will go down. Nancy will survive.

This could be the biggest head fake ever delivered by an American politician. When the transcript of his phone call and the whistle blower’s complain are released, it could make the crazed democrats look like biggest fools.
Not only that, it will give AG Barr reason to install a special prosecutor to investigate the real corruption of the Biden’s.

...and therefore, doesn’t deserve “whistle blower” status. The only reason they’re claiming it is because of the special protections it receives...you don’t have to name them - but it isn’t a justified claim.
So it’s a nameless, faceless accuser that knows nothing about anything. This whole thing is absurd.
That said, where did the story-line of PDJT threatening the withholding aid come from? PDJT himself??? Did the D’s just assume they could claim “whistle blower” and use this to “finally get him”? ....when it turns out the narrative was a lie, he did no such thing, but has exposed the fact that Biden did? The video of Biden admitting it is for all to see - if DPJT did something wrong, with the claim they’re making, then what Biden did was worse, along with “what on earth was his son doing working for them?”. Was this money laundering? Taxpayer money going directly into the hands of family members by the millions?
There’s only ONE good outcome for them, while there’s several BAD outcomes. I’ve feeling they’re going to wish they never did this.
This Ukrainian Pandora’s box is packed with more Clinton crimes than Biden. This should be fun to watch.
