As Greta Thunberg and thousands of youth activists worldwide participate today in the largest Youth Climate Strike to date, educators like me see the primal-scream-worthy subtext: Students have realized that to secure their future, their best option is to leave school grounds. Never was there a clearer sign that our schools must do better on climate change.
A little over a year ago, I left the 9th grade biology classroom, my home and passion for six years, because I did not have the time and support to help young people address the one issue that will affect them the most. The pittance of lessons my colleagues and I managed to squeeze into our curricula were often squandered on the minutiae of the science or the distraction that is climate denial. Our students were left fearful, discouraged, and worst of all, too busy to apply what they learn on real solutions. I continue to watch countless young people overflowing with passion and urgency judder to a halt at a crossroads where they must choose between building a true movement and meeting our school's "safer," more traditional metrics of success.

These are youth propaganda ministers that Adolph Hitler would approve of. They carry on the fine Nazi tradition of recruiting the youth. It often ends in suicide for the vulnerable who despair of saving the earth in time. These ghouls should not be employed by our tax dollars to destroy our children.

2° rise by 2100? I’m suffering a >25° rise between breakfast and lunch.
1’ sea rise? Coast sees 20’ in 6 hours.
They’re terrified by predictions that aren’t several times standard deviations, but of mere statistical noise, of mere minutes in daily cycles.
Oh, and those islands supposedly on the cusp of being swamped? Tectonic shifts are raising them faster than protected sea rise.
At my kids school White hill middle school here in Fairfax California , which is a very liberal area, a few kids ( with parents ) decided to leave on their own and go to San Francisco or Berkeley to protest without permission
and the principal sent out a very pissed off letter saying that this was on authorized created unsafe conditions and he was very mad about it and the kids that did such were going to face punishment
I am very proud of him for taking the stance and I emailed him exactly my feelings in that regard
I told him that the motto of these groups should be not “climate crisis “ but “scare the children”

Agree. I’m sure there is a photo of der fuhrer with a similar countenance - leaning slightly forward, anger and intent in the eyes and brow, spittle forming in the sides of the mouth making an all too important point.
Probably be seeking employment elsewhere shortly. Sorry principal, the saving of muvver erf is more importanter than your denial attempts.

The earths only going to exist for 11 1/2 years more, so why go to school, why go to work, why do anything but draw support from the government, crash the economy, and flood the US with illegal aliens. Destroy everything while having a hissy fit.
Remember all the kids who dropped out of school in the late 60’s and became a burden on society.
They insist we need Big Brother (Socialist Dictator) to guide us, to tell us what is real and not real, to control our thoughts, and guide our future.
