A grocery sack containing what appeared to be human feces hung from a branch over the American River, a short boat ride upstream from one of Sacramentos most popular summertime swimming areas.
Nearby, a makeshift toilet was perched over a hole in the sand, feet from the waterline and a short walk from a couple of tents and a man washing a shirt in the river.
Depends on my mood, but if I have to go, I pop a squat, said another nearby homeless man, before paddling away in a blue kayak.
The scenes on the American late last month illustrate an ongoing public health and environmental crisis in one of the two rivers that flow through Californias capital city. As Sacramentos homeless population grows, the encampments and lack of public bathrooms for the people who live along the banks have created a risk of disease, public health data and interviews show.

President trump, we need you.
FYI: The most gorgeous river parkway in America has been taken over by bums. 28 miles of riparian landscape, with a bike/hiking trail from Sacramento to Folsom. No cars. Abundant wildlife.

The nuclear option for dealing with the “homeless” pieces of crap is to start filing citizens suits against them for violating environmental laws.

How many years until it matches the Ganges??
If even the Kardashians are leaving you know it must be bad.
Featuring a person "experiencing homelessness". Does that mean she just wanted to see what it feels like?
Stopping the flow of water to save the Delta River Smelt killed the central valley farmers but it’s diverse for the homeless to sh*t in the river. Bless Sacto’s evil septic hearts
What is this? India?
Next you will see bodies floating down.....
Democrats
Eco-radicals push for making every stream and farmer’s seasonal pond a “navigable water of the US” under the Federal Clean Water Act while the state ignores the many who actually make clean rivers dirty.
Typhoid coming up!
AKA "BUM"!
Hobos.
Commies and their sexually confused anarchist partners in foreign culture states are too corrupt and lazy to build toilets and stop encouraging drug abuse. What else is new?
I went white water rafting on the American River, and camped overnight near Sutter’s Mill some 35 years ago. Was a beautiful area. Probably encroached by development by now, in addition to the people just staying there indefinitely.
