Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said Thursday that Mexicos government doesnt agree with an astonishing U.S. Supreme Court order that would block migrants from countries other than Mexico and Canada from applying for asylum at U.S. borders.
Speaking at President Andrés Manuel López Obradors daily news conference, Ebrard said that Mexico has a different policy when it comes to asylum seekers and would never implement such a rule.
Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico, he said.
The United States has a very hardline immigration policy, Ebrard continued. The courts decision is astonishing in the impact that it is going to have.

Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico, he said. So why were refugees allowed to pass through Mexico instead of given asylum in Mexico?

One little excerpt does not a case make.I believe that we have a signed agreement already.

Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico, he said. Their policy is to escort the claimant to the US border, where they can request refugee status in the US.
In reality, they are a "Third Party Country". They are supposed to grant asylum at their own border, not at ours.

Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico, he said. Then let them stay in Mexico. Problem solved.
Or is that too complex for him to understand?

Send the Mexican ambassador home. Tell him to tell the Mexican Foreign Secretary to apologize for trying to interfere in U.S. domestic affairs if he wants to send his ambassador back to the U.S., else don’t bother sending a Mexican ambassador to the U.S.

That is because our immigration law has always stated that someone seeking asylum must do so in the first country they arrive in upon escaping their country.
Perhaps Mexico should change their immigration if they do not want to hold those who come from a country than Guatemala or Belize and are seeking asylum in the U.S.

Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico, he said. That's a complete lie on Mexico's part. How many times have we read about American's imprisoned, beaten and detained for months because they were on the wrong side of the America/Mexico border?
Mexico knows they're lying ....
