NC-9 Special Election Discussion
Bishop (R) vs McCready (D)
The next 7 precincts in Mecklenburg are strong for McCready again. He's up by 10 in the Election Day vote there, which is very good if he could really do this (still have doubts). But very good, in this case, may not be enough to win given his struggles elsewhere— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) September 11, 2019
Looks like Mecklenberg could turn this FOR McCready.
Well, that calls for a little music break (to break the tension here a tiny bit).

That is very true! NC-3 is my district and our Democrat governor has done all he could legally do to give the special election to his party! The scheduling of the primaries and the election itself the week of July 4 for the primary and during hurricane season for the special election was a veiled attempt to depress turnout. He encouraged Allen Thomas, the former mayor of Greenville (home of East Carolina University) to run by allowing him to take a leave of absence from his cushy and profitable state job to which he will be allowed to return since he lost. Thomas was also a local TV celebrity, so he had good name recognition throughout the district even before he ran. Greg Murphy is a pediatrician and was a state representative, but did not have nearly as much name recognition and had to go through a competitive primary as well as a run-off election.
With 80.14% in:
NAME ON BALLOT PARTY BALLOT COUNT PERCENT
Dan Bishop REP 79,712 50.50%
Dan McCready DEM 77,198 48.91%
Jeff Scott LIB 636 0.40%
Allen Smith GRE 299 0.19%
Bishop up 1,500 with 27/50 Meck and all Union in. This is going to suck. Meck will find a few boxes.
Mecklenberg...only 28% reporting and HUGE lead for McCready.
McReady finished up 9.55% in Mecklenburg in 2018 so tonight is on par with that and McReady lost the last time around.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 09 (VOTE FOR 1)
Precincts Reported: 165 of 210
NAME ON BALLOT PARTY BALLOT COUNT PERCENT
Dan Bishop REP 80,927 50.47%
Dan McCready DEM 78,468 48.94%
40k votes tabulated so far in Mecklenburg.
Maybe 63k total turnout? So about 64% counted.
Dan Bishop REP 79,712 50.50%
Dan McCready DEM 77,198 48.91%
It could, but Bishop did better than expected with the election day vote.
Meck had more votes casts then Union in 2018,,higher % of the UNION vote in tonight and Bishop only up 1200 votes or so
Precincts Reported: 159 of 210
Still a lot of precincts out in Mecklenberg county (Dem area) but the buzz on Twitter is that many of those precincts are GOP-friendly where it might be a wash or a slight GOP edge. Fingers crossed. Bishop now out to a 2% (3,000 vote) lead with nearly 80% of the vote now counted.
very encouraging
In Mecklenberg, that is.
48k tabulated now in Mecklenburg. So maybe 76% of vote in.
Assuming 63k total turnout.
Wow :)
