FOR THE RECORD: CBS Memos Controversy on Free Republic--15 Years ago!

In the interest of the historical importance of things that happened on this forum last week and, most importantly, to try to provide and document an accurate record of exactly what happened here on the evening of September 8, 2004, and the following morning, I have compiled a listing of ALL of the postings that occurred on Free Republic concerning CBS and Dan Rather 60 Minutes show from 8:00 PM EDT on Thurdsay, September 8, 2004, up until about 9:00 AM EDT on the morning of Friday, September 9, 2004, when the rest of the internet "caught up."
I am posting this thread for two reason.
First, to document the facts as we all know them to be -- and to try to put to rest the dubious claims that have been made concerning exactly how this all came about and exactly who "brought" it about.
Perhaps I am doing this to try to set the record straight, so as no one else will believe we are anything other than who we are: a bunch of really cool people (in Freeperware) from all across this country and from all walks of life with a passion for this country and for the truth who are lucky enough to know a man like Jim Robinson who decided to make this his life's work and give us all a place to rant/vent/question/opine/whine/relish the events that go on about us.
And, secondly, to remind everybody that even though Buckhead, TankerKC, and myself are the names mentioned in the blogs and articles concerning that night, it was, as it always is here on Free Republic, many, many posters; numerous questions were raised BEFORE the famous post #47.

Thanks Mr.Unique. An unusual choice for the weekly Digest ping, perhaps, but not all interesting history is ancient. :^)

Really a very wealthy neighborhood of Atlanta, not a suburb. The governors mansion is there.

In those days Rather was the exception. --
I'm not so sure. The Rather / TANG incident marked exposure, but who knows about the extent of existence of make-it-up news.
Even then it was obvious that the popular press wasn't educated, so it's incapable of educating the public about "the way things really work."

The anachronistic nature of the fake memos was clear to anyone with two brain cells to rub together. Makes ya wonder what happened to those two when Hussein's Frankenburthform was released!

“but the signature’s authentic” we were told.
When you past a photocopy of a signature on a document that is faxed, it’s easier to transfer a signature.
The despotic Left lied to voters and lies to this day.

Dan Ratherbiased went on the air with it because AP was about to print the story and he wanted the “scoop”.
both AP and SeeBS were guilty and for days they refused to even acknowledge there was a controversy about the authenticity.
A Democrat operative had connected the forger with the media. And no one ever went to prison.

Thanks for the ping. Sorry, but that wasn't me.
I joined DU and was banned almost immediately. Never made it to 3 posts, much less 1,000. Never would have used the rainbow symbol in that context, and never would have quoted John Kenneth Galbraith.

The DU crowd is not that hard to understand (or imitate if you wish to do so).
They are cargo cultists at heart.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult
Obama gave you the key to their belief system when he said "You didn't build that."
In the cargo cult stuff just mysteriously appears--nobody actually created it with labor or capital.
Now if you lived in such a magical kingdom then of course sharing and caring is the only reasonable response--no-one created it so no-one should benefit more than anyone else.
Only the "selfish" and "bad people" would take more for themselves.
This cargo cult mentality is a byproduct of the prosperity of western societies.
Electricity is like magic.
The grocery stores full of an amazing variety of food is like magic.
Shopping on-line for an almost infinite variety of goods is like magic.
etc., etc., etc.
The "cargo" appears miraculously on the "island"!
All you have to do to get your share of the stuff is say the correct incantations (political correctness) so you can keep your job or remain in your social group.

So proud of FR and this work. This will always be a stain on Dan Rather and his staff, despite the fact that the mainstream media has tried hard to erase and forget. But we still remember!
