Looks like an opportunity for MADE IN USA.

” I used to always get approached by hard-sell clerks at the store. “Do you want to buy a lightbulb that will last for 40 years?”

I bought two 100 W equivalent LED bulbs for the ceiling light in my kitchen that should have lasted longer than I. One failed within a couple weeks. It was a relatively inexpensive store brand, and I’m sure the store would have accepted a return, but who the heck keeps receipts for light bulbs?

Why do I keep having to replace these new-style bulbs that claim to have a ten-year life span?

Read the fine print. That's only if you use them no more than 3 hours a day. Work from home (or retired) and use them 15 hours a day, and you are down to no more than 2 years. And the heat buildup may cause the electronics to fail even faster.

I have noticed that the cheap Chinese crap ones I buy at Home Depo last a lot longer than the cheap Chinese crap ones that come from Walmart. And I haven't had one burn through yet like a couple of toxic twisties did.

I am too lazy to check it out, but I believe it was George W. Bush who signed the bill into law.

Those curly bulbs look like hell in my old lamps.

But the normal looking LED bulbs look fine. I buy 100w equivalent rather than 60 and they are great. I cannot speak of the energy savings part of it (they probably do) but they do last and they look good.

I guess I need to educate myself on the new technology. We bought a hoard of incandescents when the bans started, primarily because we didn’t want to deal with the hazards of the mercury in the new ones. But that was then, and I understand that bulbs have improved dramatically. My stash of incandescents should see me through my learning curve, though.

Now we have to get him informed on the corn in your tank fallacy.

Yes, it's a delicate one....but farmers will just switch to a different crop....just like they switched to corn.

Sit down with the farmers. They are great innovators.

Trump trying to bring back working dishwashers to America.

If all dishwashers were like the great little Bosch model I bought a few years ago, he wouldn't need to. The thing is unbelievable. However, as a caveat, I use phosphate detergent in it. You can still buy it on Amazon; a little bit goes a long way, and gets the dishes sparkling clean with no spots or scratches.

"shower head with decent flow rate."

Many flex shower heads have a ball for water to flow through.

Take the shower head apart to get to the ball

Place in a vise with jaw protectors and drill out to 1/2 inch...control your own flow.

LED bulbs in our house at 5,000 Kelvin. No more dirty, dingy, yellow looking incandescents for us. 👍

Great, buy all you want and enjoy them. Just don’t be a Nazi and tell me that I can only buy LED bulbs because only your preference is
permitted.

If CFL bulbs lasted anywhere NEAR the advertised lifespan, I might question this. Apparently, the "long life" part comes in if you don't EVER turn them off.

I spent too many years turning off lights when I left the room. My grandmother saw a house explode from a natural gas leak, when she was small. She demanded all electric. She was also convinced that outlets let electrons spill out on the floor, otherwise they wouldn't be called "plugs". Every outlet had a plug in it. You could wear sunglasses in her house and read a newspaper.

She also complained about how the power company was gouging her...

They won a gas dryer at the county fair. It sat in the garage, unused, for 30 years. When they died, the dryer was found to be stuffed full of empty whiskey bottles.

My grandfather would go down to the pharmacy in September and buy one of each cough syrup on the shelf, and pour them all into a 5 gallon jug. He'd then top the jug up with bourbon. One shot glass full every evening, all winter, to keep colds away. However, small town, and he couldn't just throw the bottles in the trash. So...

There is a premium for shower heads that can be disassembled. They allow you to remove the restrictor. You might also use a 1/2" drill...

After 40 years of this sh!t, it's almost subversive...

I still chuckle at the story of a urologist using his non-sterile surgical tools to do prostate surgery on his low flow showerhead.

“You mean I won’t be forced to buy those “10,000 hour” bulbs that go bad at 300 hours and get thrown into the landfill to poison the ground water?”

Somewhere along the line you took the wrong path to knowledge.
