THOUGHT FOR THE WEEKEND
There is a line separating dedication-to-duty from "work-a-holism". Dedication to duty is good, healthy, and positive. Work-a-holism, on the other hand, is negative, harmful and eats away at family relationships. We must know the difference between the two. Let me tell you about a man who was called the Greatest American Soldier of the 20th Century: General George C. Marshall. Born in Uniontown, PA in 1880, he graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1902. As a junior infantry officer in the US Army he served two tours in the Philippines, in several stateside camps, then to Europe where he helped plan some of the great Allied campaigns of World War I. He was selected to be senior aide to General "Blackjack" Pershing; then off to duty in China. In 1938 he was chosen by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to be Army Chief of Staff, a position he held throughout World War II. As COS he oversaw the greatest build-up ever of the Army--from 200,000 to 8.5 million soldiers. He volunteered and was considered the first-choice to lead the D-Day invasion of France, but President Roosevelt was so reliant on General Marshall that he would not let him leave Washington. In 1946 he became Secretary of State and engineered a plan to bolster the economic recovery of a devastated Europe. President Truman insisted (despite Gen Marshall's protests) that this massive undertaking be called the Marshall Plan. He was an architect of NATO and helped contain the fighting in Korea. In 1953 he was awarded the Noble Peace Prize, the only professional soldier to be accorded that honor. It is said that at the height of World War II, despite his crushing responsibilities, General Marshall went home every afternoon to take a nap! Although we may not be able to go home and take a nap in the middle of our day, let us be on guard that we not succumb to workaholism. Let us also watch out for each other in this area! If you: take periodic breaks from your busy work schedule, get away periodically from the demands of the job, take leave and allow yourself time to enjoy some quiet time each day... then you will be able to return to work and tackle your responsibilities with renewed vigor, dedication, and peace of mind. Have a nice weekend and, as always, Safety First!

September 8Blue Lines
I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. Proverbs 4:11
Downhill skiing racecourses are often marked by swaths of blue paint sprayed across the white, snowy surface. The crude arcs might be a visual distraction for spectators but prove to be vital to both the success and safety of the competitors. The paint serves as a guide for the racers to visualize the fastest line to the bottom of the hill. Additionally, the contrast of the paint against the snow offers racers depth perception, which is critical to their safety when traveling at such high rates of speed.
Solomon begs his sons to seek wisdom in hopes of keeping them safe on the racecourse of life. Like the blue lines, wisdom, he says, will lead [them] along straight paths and keep them from stumbling (Proverbs 4:1112). His deepest hope as a father is for his sons to enjoy a rich life, free from the damaging effects of living apart from the wisdom of God.
God, as our loving Father, offers us blue-line guidance in the Bible. While Hes given us the freedom to ski wherever we like, the wisdom He offers in the Scriptures, like racecourse markers, are life to those who find them (v. 22). When we turn from evil and walk instead with Him, our path will be lit with His righteousness, keeping our feet from stumbling and guiding us onward each day (vv. 12, 18).

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...and a Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.
Did weather allow you and Penny and you and Blue to stretch your legs today?
We actually had a couple hours this morning of real rain, not just sprinkles. And “they” say 100% chance of rain later this evening. Hope they got it right. I am hearing some drops on my skylight right now. May they continue all evening and overnight as well.

I won't be a work-a-holic again. I am too old and no longer have the stamina for it. I do not stop to smell the roses but a good book is a good break.

This morning started out cold and cloudy, but got really nice just before sunset, and the night was clear, crisp, and lovely.
Penny and I mostly just “chilled” today!
One has to do that every little once in a while.
