I don’t see what all the blame throwing is all about. I doubt anyone in Alabama really gave a rat’s butt about the storm. Before I trust what any of the weather people tell me, I look out the window first........

“This is stupid. It’s not as if the chances of Alabama being hit by what was then a Cat 5 hurricane were zero on September 1st.”

Exactly. There were many paths in the early stages of hurricane Dorian.

>>>>For pete’s sake - it’s a matter of record; there was TV early on TV broadcasts showing the eye of the storm crossing Florida into the Gulf of Mexico and a projected cone into the Alabama/Mississippi area. Look it up!!!

This isn't about the 29th...this is about what the Birmingham office tweeted out on the 1st of September at 11AM. At that time the storm was no longer forecasted to hit land, only graze the outer banks of NC, and the tropical storm force winds were only forecasted to brush the coastall areas of FL, Georgia, SC and NC.

The whole stink is about advisory #33 and the fact the Birmingham WFO said there would be no impacts from Dorian - which was a good forecast based on the NHC forecast of the track and the forecast advisory track and forecasted wind fields.

Trumps map on the 29th of August showing Alabama in danger was accurate.

Stupid stupid stupid press, making a mountain out of mole hill.

OBVIOUSLY when Trump spoke he was speaking from a knowledge base that came from NOAA earlier than when he was speaking, which was an early estimate of Dorian’s course, which at the time Trump was speaking was not NOAA’s most recent estimate.

The extent of Trump Derangement Syndrome in the media and liberal government employees is shocking. They start by misquoting, or intentionally misunderstanding what President Trump says. And then they make up total nonsense.

The entire set of NOAA hurricane cone images is available from NOAA's website here. Anyone who wants to can look at the whole series of predictions they made -- including the one used by President Trump in his presentation.

Right across the top of the chart it says "The cone contains the probable path of the storm center but does not show the size of the storm. Hazardous conditions can occur outside of the cone." And the same chart shows a yellow indication of the actual size of the hurricane, which extends outside of the cone. You can see it in the chart President Trump is holding.

It is immediately apparent to anyone looking at the chart that if the hurricane, shown in yellow, just stayed the same size and moved to the outer edge of the cone, it would have its northwest quadrant very close to Alabama and tropical storm force winds would extend into Alabama. If it got bigger, as it was predicted to, and did, then more of Alabama would be in the hurricane. In fact the black line is a pretty good outline of where the outline of the hurricane would be.

Any NWS person who looks at the chart being presented by President Trump and says there is no predicted storm risk for Alabama is either a liar or totally incompetent. Of course now that we know what happened, and that every early prediction NOAA made about the hurricane path over the United States was wrong, we have NWS people saying President Trump was wrong, since after all later forecasts placed the hurricane further east.

NOAA and NWS need to admit that in general their prediction skills are very limited. They are wrong on 24 hour predictions many times. Here in New Hampshire they predicted heavy rains from Dorian yesterday and today. But they were wrong. Dorian is further out to sea and we have clear skies.

Yes, it was. Which is why here in Alabama I was thinking of all the refugees who would be cramming into the city I’m in. I also thought we might be impacted by the storm itself.

That creep Bret Baier was making much of this last night while blaming the other networks & cables for making much of it.

Why don’t you post the same data for August 29th, that’s the chart President Trump is holding.

>>>This is stupid. It’s not as if the chances of Alabama being hit by what was then a Cat 5 hurricane were zero on September 1st.

It was about as close to zero as you can get. Was it ZERO? No. But by advisory #33, at 11 AM on 1 Sept, the 6Z models had come out and every one of them had the recurve scenario. Even the ensembles of the global models had him recurving. There was not ONE model that put Alabama in ANY danger of damaging winds...not a single one.

I spent 32 years as a professional meteorologist....most of that time I spent it forecasting tropical cyclone impacts. It was a good forecast to say NO impacts give every shred of data available. Any forecaster that would have said "impacts were possible" would have just been playing it safe or playing politics and not making a real forecast....because there would have been ZERO data to support such a conclusion.

You are only showing two tracks in your map. When I was watching there were many paths shown from different hurricane models with some going across Florida out into the Gulf of Mexico.

>>>Why don’t you post the same data for August 29th, that’s the chart President Trump is holding.

This article is NOT about the 29th. NOAA didn't throw the WFO Birmingham under the bus for ANYTHING concerning the 29th...it was the tweet from the 1st.

The stuff concerning the 29th is absolutely legit slander. Trump was totally correct on the 29th - because the internal 7-day forecasts had Alamaba under thread. Those 7 day NHC forecasts are NOT available to the public - but the NCA does have access to them and so did Trump - on the 29th. So - he was correct then. I have ZERo problems with that and the media was TOTALLY unfair about that.

The media is also unfair to him about this flap on the 1st - because I know for a FACT that Trump was given bad information about Alabama being under threat by Admiral Schultz. Trump didn't make the mistake - Schultz did when he briefed him.

But that doesn't change the facts that Alabama was NOT in any danger on the 1st when Trump made the Tweet (based on faulty info given to him by the coast guard commandant). The apology need to be made by Shutlt...not the Birmingham WFO.

Um, does anyone care what a British tabloid thinks about what’s happening in the US?

Do you know anyone in the US who actually reads this drivel?

Facts are tough things for the leftists to believe.

Am I missing somethings? Reports/stories all over the place talk/report as if Trump himself took a sharpie and modified a weather map.

The video I’ve seen shows Trump displaying the map with an extended area possibly made (by an artist) with a sharpie, already drawn on it. NOT something crude like an amateur would draw.

Trump didn’t pull out a sharpie and doctor the weather map!

Dorian was predicted by NOAA to hit Alabama. You don't need a secret decoder ring or restricted software to see this.

Just follow this link to NOAA graphics showing this plain as day. Too bad President Trump didn't show this to the world.

As you can see in the graphic, as one time more than 50% of Alabama was involved.

The C-i-C listened to the weatherman and both of the two were wrong so we must impeach Donald Trump!

The left is happy. Now they have something to impeach him on. Whoregate didn’t work. Wet-the-bed-gate failed. Herr Müllergate faded away. But now they have it! Trump was wrong about a weather forecast! He’ll have to be impeached for that!

(/bitter sarcasm.)

LOL - that's because I am not showing model tracks. And NO - when you were watching it on the FIRST of September - which is what the tweet from the Birmingham office is about - you did not see ANY model taking it across Florida into the Gulf. There were NONE doing that on teh first - which AGAIN is what this article is about - the tweet from the FIRST.

I am showing the actual NHC forecasts from an actual OFFICAL emergency manager program used by governmental agencies. That is what ALL official decisions would be made from - not model tracks.

But - since you insist...as you can see - there were NO models forecasting it. Even the ensembles had come into agreement (but those are no longer available - but they were in agreement with these):
