Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has announced he will resign after his populist government lost the support of a key coalition member.
Mr Conte accused Matteo Salvini, leader of the right-wing League party, of trying to ruin the ruling coalition for personal and political gain, risking financial instability for Italy.
Good riddance.
And like the song says, don’t go away mad...
I don’t follow Italy so closely.
IIRC, Italy just had an election or some political change that moved them (I think) closer to Trump. Is this guy part of the problem? A globalist? Is his resignation possibly good news, moving Italy even closer to Trump?
Or is Trump losing a friend here?
Anyone that hates Salvini, is like a Trump hating Rino.
Salvini is awesome.
Does this clear the way for Salvini to become PM?
If so, I will celebrate with an ice cold Nastro Azzurro & raise a toast - Forza Italia!!
:^)
Beware of projecting American political realities onto European politics. There are lots of nuances and not everyone falls neatly into conservative or liberal (or pro-Trump and anti-Trump) camps the same way they do here.
And yes there are blatant fascist and anti-Semitic elements in significant segments of the right wing in several countries. It isnt just propaganda. The National Fronts founder in France for example, is an avowed Holocaust denier. And these unsavory elements have had just as much to do with Europes downfall into its current crisis as anything else. Preceding the migrants.
And dont be a Putinista please. Russian politics is a whole other ballgame.
Wonder if this has anything to do with the recent firing of some intelligence guys trying help take down Trump.
What does this mean for Italy staying in the EU?
Yes, my understanding as well. The concepts are very foreign to anyone in North America, but there really ARE right wingers there - true fascists. Jean Francois Revel has a good book on it called “Anti-Americanism”. The Europe right tended to be just as anti-American as the left.
The article doesn’t relay much information. What was his stance on immigration. Like everywhere, that was a hot issue, was it not?
Salvini is still letting migrants in.
Until Italy gets its financial house in order, it’s still in thrall the the EU.
Bingo. Thats why even in the current context: beyond some shared sentiments about the migrant crisis, you see places like Hungary forging strong ties with China, Iran and the like. And within the right wing of Western countries, lots of anti-Israel rhetoric, and talk about bringing down the reign of the US dollar which is code for lets restore our dominance again and offset America rather than strengthen our alliance under new terms set by Trump agenda.
Poland is cool though :)!
Yes Poland seems to have it together. I might be reaching here, but the origin of the right’s anti-Semitism might have been in its Monarchist roots? Europeans tended to sneer at the new American Republic way back in its infancy.
Conte loved Trump!!
Italy, then Hungary then France and then the whole thing collapses.
Good ridance, buh bye.
Wasn’t this the mutt who was going to force Matteo Donald Trump Salvini out? Ha ha ha ha get lost asshole.
Arrivaderci, a-hole!
I for one am not one who believes that independent countries should forge alliances only to be dominated by big players. The neocons seem to take this approach. Neither Hungary nor any other country is bound by our policy on China, Russia, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Syria etc etc. And neither should they be bound by dollarization, which has enabled and strengthened the Welfare-warfare state, the Fed...
It may be that we need to suffer as a Republic for a few years to demolish 100 years+ of progressive trash.
I look forward to the day when our exceptionalism comes from fidelity to God and Constitution, and not interventionist foreign policy.
