Greenland is not for sale and U.S. President Donald Trumps idea of buying the semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic from Denmark is an absurd discussion, Denmarks prime minister said.
Mette Frederiksen, who was visiting the worlds largest island to meet Premier Kim Kielsen, told reporters: Greenland is not Danish. Greenland is Greenlandic. I persistently hope that this is not something that is seriously meant.
Frederiksen said Sunday that the Arctic, with resources that Russia and others could exploit for commercial gain, is becoming increasingly important to the entire world community.

Our economy. Trump is selling past the sale.
Oh yeah.
Then why dont they call canned ham Danish?
And Legos come from Denmark?
Ill be.
Those Denmarkers are a clever and industrious people.
Except for wearing wooden shoes.
Slivers in their tootsies.
Well, many do....ie PlumRose Canned Danish Ham
Oh..... I think that the Dutch are known for their wooden shoes rather than the Danes.
Denmark is supposed to defend Greenland. Denmark does this by being a member of NATO so that the U.S. defends Greenland. Denmark spends on 1.3 percent of GDP on defense, less than its NATO obligation of 2 percent. Denmark’s P.M. says it’s absurd for the U.S. to be interested in buying Greenland. That’s what welfare recipients do. They bite the hand that feeds them. What the hell are we doing in NATO?
Apparently there is a lot of natural resources there including uranium. China has its eye on that and is working with an Australian company to extract it. Once they get their claws into something they don’t let go. Maybe Trump should make the Danes an offer that they can’t refuse.
Art of the deal... We’ll end up buying half if it.
Just this past weekend, I went out and asked 100 people what the Denmarkers are famous for.
64 said they are famous for their Danish pastries.
2, just 2, said the Denmarkers are famous for their canned hams.
17 people said the Denmarkers are famous for juggling, but they might have been drunk.
Regarding “buying” Greenland, this refers (1) to assuming the subsidy payments Denmark makes, (2) continuing to provide the defense Denmark can’t provide except by being a member of NATO (which it underfunds), (3) offering the people the same revenue-sharing deal Denmark offers were royalties on the island’s natural resources to ever become significant AND ... (4) this being acceptable to the permanent residents of Greenland (almost all of them being Inuit, very few ethnic Danes live there). I don’t think we should give Denmark a dime.
Our purchase of the U.S. Virgin Islands from Denmark was different (as times were different).
Looks like to me you interviewed 100 ignorant people
Now Im totally confused.
They eat their shoes?
I thought that was the Japanese?
It seems like Canada would be a better fit with Greenland.
What’s so absurd about it? The Louisiana Purchase? The purchase of Alaska... There is a history here....
Maybe Greenlanders would like to become a US territory.
It was my family reunion so, yes, they arent all hoidy toidy graduates of Harvard or Yale or Bobs Bartending College.
They are simple people.
Some might call them The salt of the earth.
But I wouldnt sprinkle them on a hard boiled egg.
There is a photo in the book “J.M. Browning, American Gunmaker”. It shows a worker at FN in Belgium looking through a barrel. The caption also mentions that the man is wearing wooden shoes.
Sure enough he is.
Two previous administrations wanted to buy Greenland from Denmark. Both Democrats.
The Andrew Johnson and Harry Truman Administrations.
We actually invaded and possessed Greenland in WWII to keep the Nazis from taking it over, because they had invaded and taken over Denmark. Then we turned it back over to Denmark after the war.
We have NATO bases there and have protected it for decades.
It is not an ‘absurd’ idea.
Greenland is self-governing. We could give each and every resident of Greenland 10 Million dollars, TAX FREE, and still make a huge profit............
President Trump is a Multi-Billionaire real estate developer. I can imagine the thought of making a Deal to buying Greenland probably puts a “Charge” in Him.
And butter!
