Ed Smart, the father of kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart, posted on social media Thursday that he is gay, divorcing his wife and doesn’t see a place for himself in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In “one of the hardest letters I have ever written,” Smart wrote in a Facebook message to family and friends that “I have recently acknowledged to myself and my family that I am gay.”

If Michael Medved was saying that it’s because he lifted it from Florence King. She used to write the Misanthrope’s Corner for National Review back when. She was the best. That quip was in one of her books.

While both are indeed sins, one is against the very physical nature of the man created by the Lord God.
It is often easier for the repentant adulterer to return his/her face back to the Lord God.
It’s often by degrees the sinner leaves the love, grace, and protection of the Lord God. That is why it is only after a certain line known by the Lord God only, that He will given over the sinners heart to satan.
There are cases where after only dropping to the most sinful states a person becomes repentant and those are the most strident of announcing the Grace of the Lord God.
A person leaving a heterosexual marriage leaves not only the other person’s heart in shock, concern, puzzlement, it leaves the person’s heart questioning his/her value as a man or woman itself.
It’s a much deeper cut; the difference between a kitchen knife, with a wound while often deadly has a better chance of being healed than a large machete cut to the body.

I think, perhaps his faith was shaken so badly during the time of his daughter’s kidnapping it allowed an open wound to be festered by satan.
He had six children with his wife. So how did that happen?
He may be a nobody, but every time there’s an abduction he shows up to be interviewed. Like in the recent Utah sugar-daddy case.
He should change his last name, it is now an oxymoron.
You have to wonder what was in the guys mind when he had all of those homeless men working around his house

Waitaminnit. What does he mean by "intend"? You may not have intended it as an end --- something you positively and definitely wanted --- but you intended it as collateral damage which could have been avoided just by showing her the love and loyalty she always showed you.
He deliberately chose a few garbled fragments of temporary sexual satisfaction --- he hopes --- and at the cost of excruciating pain to his wife and who-knows-what kind of suffering to his 6 children.
Saying he didn't "intend" it doesn't matter even one little bit. How these cruel people justify themselves --- hurting and humiliating the people who have loved them most --- in order to serve their fleeting, degrading fantasies.
The woman who helped in the abduction and confinement is already out of prison.
Where is NOW?
Why is this news? He may have posted it on Facebook, but the news is not obligated to run with it. Are they so short on worthy news that they have time to waste on some guy’s coming out party?
Not shocked at all. I pretty much knew he was gay. I hope that Mr. Smart remains close to his children. Yes he is gay BUT he is still Elizabeth Smart FATHER that includes her siblings.

Not surprising. I distinctly remember thinking he seemed quite”delicate” in all the news interviews.
