SACRAMENTO — California Assemblyman Phil Ting has never been arrested, but he was recently mistaken for a criminal. He’s not surprised. Ting (D-San Francisco), who authored a bill to ban facial recognition software from being used on police body cameras, was one of 26 California legislators who was incorrectly matched with a mug shot in a recent test of a common face-scanning program by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Lying liars; in the previous highly publicized test with Congress they intentionally set the filter to an 80% confidence level instead of Amazon’s recommended level of 99% for law enforcement work. I’m sure they did the same thing again.

Facial rec tech is a police state tool. I could just see them running it against a TEA party rally or against a MAGA rally audience or parked by a gun show and running all the atendees.

It will never be perfect. There are too many similar faces.
I read once long ago, before the Internet, in some scientific journal somewhere that there are only a limited number of BASIC ‘faces’ for each race. I forget what the exact number was, a few thousand or so. But all ‘faces’ are just variations of the ‘basic’ face, some being more symmetrical some being less. Some being wider or more narrow, etc.
Now, if you are looking for an individual, and you have his or her EXACT facial measurements, eye width, chin length, ear separation, etc, it might become more accurate, but the computing power required would have to be enormous for it to be useful in real time........
