At about 4:10 p.m. on 8 August 2019, Dmitriy Andreychenco walked into the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Springfield, Missouri. He had a slung AR-type rifle and was wearing a T-shirt and tactical vest. He obtained a shopping cart and was videoing himself on a cell phone while pushing the cart through the store. He did not threaten anyone, point the rifle at anyone, or make any threats that are known at this time.
A manager at the store pulled the store alarm, causing a panic while customers evacuated the store. Dmitriy evacuated with the other customers. As he left the store, a firefighter with a concealed carry permit, who was armed, drew his pistol and held Dmitriy for police. In the video from outside the store, you can see that Dmitri was calmly complying with police orders. Look at his black t-shirt. I do not see any evidence of body armor being worn.
He is wearing some sort of web gear, which it appears, the media denoted as body armor. Identification of web gear as body armor has been common in the media.
Open carry is legal in Missouri. It has been hard fought for. Opponents of an armed population have worked hard to characterize open carry as threatening. The last few days of a media blitz on the rampage murders in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, have put the country on edge. The message has been that every young white male is a deadly threat. The manager at Walmart seems to have bought into the message.

And actually, the CCW holder in this story should have been arrested for drawing on Mr. Dimitry.
The CCW holder was IN THE WRONG.
Open carry is legal in many states, including mine. It is not practical in todays society to open carry in public places. It is also not required when conceal carry will do just fine. Open carry in public will get you a disturbing the peace charge at best, shot by overzealous city police at worst.
I carry all the time. So, do, probably, a large percentage of the locals in my rural area.
I recommend you stop carrying then. I seriously question your judgement to do so responsibly.
If you "shot him dead" for no other reason than him carrying a slung rifle, you would go to prison for life.
I see people open carrying both pistols and rifles on a regular basis and not once have I ever felt the slightest fear they would go postal.
"Practicality" is not part of the law.
I love great theater.
A double blind act.
A perfect reaction by the store manager.
All the people played their parts well.
Now a person open carrying can expect to be challenged in reality
re: “The CCW holder was IN THE WRONG.”
Sorry, BUCKWHEAT, you still got SHOT ... (THIS is a hypothetical THAT COULD HAPPEN. Geez. Some ppl just WON’T get it, ever.)
One of our regular morning coffee group open carries. We have sheriff’s deputies and city police who drink coffee with us. No one has ever said a word to the open carrier.
Actually “in today’s times” I feel comfortable with him being there, in case some nut came in and tried to shoot up the place. Not that any of us old farts are worth killing.
re: “Now a person open carrying can expect to be challenged in reality”
Are you stupid too?
Or uninformed to the extreme?
I guess you’re too dumb to realize - this MORON did this within a COUPLE DAYS of two MASS SHOOTINGS.
You MORONS don’t understand HUMAN NATURE.
Ugh!
PARADE AROUND WAL-MART SOME OTHER DAY, MORON, just NOT two days after a MASS SHOOTING event.
GOT IT YET?
The law is on the slung rifle carrying person's side, not the CCW holder.
Then I hope that you would be facing life in prison for second degree murder. Absent any threatening move on his part, and there were none by all accounts, you would have shot someone doing nothing illegal.
I feel safer around open carriers than in their absence.
re: “The law is on the slung rifle carrying person’s side, not the CCW holder.”
But, you’re DEAD, stupid. (In this hypothetical.)
Because you challenged HUMAN NATURE in the form of someone on-edge in the wake of a mass shooting and press-induced hysteria.
You’re just NOT going to get this, are you?
Make better decisions in the future, LET some time pass AFTER the mass-shooting before you parade around in a Wal-mart with a rifle, cammo-shirt, taking full motion-picture “selfies” ...
It is private property, and they set the rules. If hello how are you doing from the police is too much contact...well some of the later responses in the thread are pretty clear.
I would like organizations to help someone like this however. And get something to the SCOTUS that will assist the states in what the 2nd amendment really means.
DK
Amen, amen, amen.
The guy is a buffoon and an idiot. Given what had just happened in El Paso, hes lucky he wasnt taken out by Wal Mart Security before he got past the greeter. He didnt help his cause. There are gun nuts out there. He is one of them.
“Had I seen this young man walking in to my local Walmart, I might have shot him dead.”
You should not be carrying. Ever.
The kid didnt do anything wrong. You need to reread your pocket Constitution.
You are one of the reasons the 2nd Amend exists. To protect our G-d given rights from intrusive, holier than thou busy bodies who “know whats best” for others.
I said it before, open carry for a guy like this is BLING... (look at me, I have a big gun). He may have the right to open carry, but he doesn’t HAVE the right to tarnish the 2nd Amendment which a STUPID action like this does. A GUN isn’t for BLING. This kind of childish action hurts all of us on the gun rights side. I carry every day and NOBODY knows it but me.
Just because you can do a thing, doesn’t mean you should.
This guy did us no favors with this self-aggrandizing stunt.
