WASHINGTON (AP) - A veteran FBI agent who wrote derogatory text messages about Donald Trump filed a lawsuit Tuesday charging that the bureau caved to unrelenting pressure from the president when it fired him.
The suit from Peter Strzok also alleges he was unfairly punished for expressing his political opinions, and that the Justice Department violated his privacy when it shared hundreds of his text messages with reporters.
The campaign to publicly vilify Special Agent Strzok contributed to the FBIs ultimate decision to unlawfully terminate him, the lawsuit says, as well as to frequent incidents of public and online harassment and threats of violence to Strzok and his family that began when the texts were first disclosed to the media and continue to this day.
The complaint, which names as defendants Attorney General William Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray, revisits a political drama that was seized on by conservative critics of special counsel Robert Muellers Russia investigation as proof that the bureau was biased against Trump. Multiple investigations are underway examining whether the FBI acted properly during the Russia investigation, and Strzok remains a frequent target of Trumps scornful tweets.
Representatives of the FBI and Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The suit provides new details about the circumstances of Strzoks firing and amounts to the latest defense of his reputation, coming months after a fiery congressional hearing in which he insisted that his personal views never influenced his work.
Strzok, a veteran counterintelligence agent who helped lead FBI investigations into Hillary Clintons use of a private email server and ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, was removed from Muellers team after the texts with FBI lawyer Lisa Page came to light. He was fired from the FBI last August.

“The suit from Peter Strzok also alleges he was unfairly punished for expressing his political opinions, and that the Justice Department violated his privacy when it shared hundreds of his text messages with reporters.”
One, his texts were ON DUTY on his Government phone.
Two, he clearly was violating the Hatch act by campaigning on duty.
Three, he was involved in a coup attempt complete with illegal wiretaps, and foreign collusion.
Four, He was violating a raft of sexual harassment policies and probably his security clearance with his office whore.
Just looking at his mug in that picture makes me sick. I can’t believe the F.B.I. hired such a criminal p@$$y.
This punk needs to thank God he’s not in prison, much less strung up for his treasonous behavior. All of a sudden he’s worried about his family? He didn’t seem to mind porking Page.
Criminals who are not punished for their crimes only become emboldened. Thats why we have the deep state and the current state of the democrat party.
It’s why I won’t bother voting in the congressional portion of next year’s election. I grow weary of the charade.
Exactly; had it been a private phone or server he could do that; it is govt equipment - which also nullifies his charge of a violation of privacy ... govt communications on govt-provided equipment are public. He must have a go-getter lawyer.
Well, that is my un-legal view at any rate. :^)
This is getting fucking insane. Comey is talking shit about Trump on twitter over these shootings and now this?
Some people better be in jail or at least indicted before 2020 or a whole lot of people are going to sit their asses at home thinking, What’s the use? We’ve already lost the republic.
Gosh I hope you are right. Otherwise, the rule of law and our republic are doomed.
Funny how some people get SWATted, or put in solitary confinment, or have to sell their home to pay for legal fees, while others merely get fired and are free to respond by filing a lawsuit.
I guess it’s just one of those random, inexplicable things in life that no one could ever explain...
What might be interesting is if they reinstate him pending outcome of the case. Sit at a desk, no computer, no security clearance, nothing.
Whats not obvious is what I think hes really up to. That is, hes trying really hard to avoid a military tribunal at Gitmo. He would strongly prefer a shopped judge and location in the civil court system. If he can get that precedent set, he may be hoping further (related) circumstances could also be roped to the same judge and court.
In any event, he doesnt want to spend time at Gitmo.
That would be bad if he could pull off the precedent of local, civil jurisdiction. I dont think hell win that battle, though Im sure hes been encouraged and supported to try.
Many more potential criminal defendants from among the corrupt gubmint working class will be rooting for him.
Wasn’t this guy Strzok talk about an insurance policy if Trump were elected?
That’s a very serious thing to contemplate, and now he thinks he’s in the cat-bird’s seat?
I would have whimpered out of town, very quietly.
These swampers are hard to put down.
All they do is project and go on offense. We could all learn form these bastards. They will have to be indicted and drained of all their money to quell them.
So Strzok is opening himself to sworn depositions from the FBI and DOJ? Sweet!
Republicans could really stand to adopt a “delenda est” approach to Democrats. It is being forced on us, and the sooner we get there, the stronger we will be in the conflict.
I think what they are really after is preventing any more bad text and emails from being released or at least delaying the release while Nadler and Schiff continue their witch hunts. The complaint suggests releasing of the texts was an attempt to undermine the Special Counsels investigation. LOL.
If they get Strzok reinstated, that is a bonus.
Discovery would be disasterous for Stzrok.
This isn’t a lawsuit.
It’s a threat.
If he thinks he’ll be reinstated, he’s nuts.
If he’s not nuts, he’s either after a payout to keep his mouth shut, or he’s putting people’s feet to the fire to do something about Trump.
Perhaps he senses the vise tightening and this is a desperate attempt to try to keep it from totally squashing him by claiming he's the victim...all the bad guys start sniveling and whining once the chip is knocked off their shoulder....
