Shortened title.

Full title: Dayton gunman Connor Betts' ex-girlfriend reveals he showed her a video of a mass shooting on their first date and took her to a gun range before they broke up in May

The ex-girlfriend of Dayton gunman Connor Betts says he showed her a video of a mass shooting on their first date and that he took her to a gun range.

Adelia Johnson, who said she dated Betts for a few months before their relationship ended in May, told NBC's Today that the 24-year-old had struggled with mental illness and he didn't get the help he needed.

The pair met in a community college class and Johnson said they bonded over both having mental illnesses. She said Betts told her he suffered from bipolar disorder and possibly OCD.

She now believes there were red flags during their relationship that could have proven to be warning signs ahead of the massacre on Sunday in which Betts gunned down nine people, including his sister Megan.

Do most gun ranges have any restrictions on people with histories of mental illness?

That's not their business.

For everyone's safety at a gun range they have range officers.

You think a nut is going to go to a gun range - where everyone else has guns - and try to shoot the place up? He wouldn't get off a second round.

Sad thing here is that this girl is even too stupid to never admit to this. UGH what a moron.

“””The amazing thing... The warning signs were everywhere... Why didn’t anybody consider calling somebody and saying something to somebody?”””

Just maybe the reason nobody spoke up is that Connor Betts is the ‘new normal’ among the 20 year olds.

“””Someone tell this twat to shut up!”””

Why? She is exposing the level of mental illness that is all too prevalent among boys who are roaming our streets.

not sure it’s possible to discern a coherent motive

That explanation would be leaps and bounds better, not to mention more accurate, than he's a MAGA supporting, Trump'er, which is where the MSM has been allowed to wander thanks to the police silence.

Sounded like he was a keeper

I mean what lady wouldn’t love to watch a clip of a mass shooting on their first date?

“These people are clearly irresponsible and they should be charged with something and held responsible. I wouldn’t recommend jail time but maybe a course in reasonable judgement to reflect on their stupidity.”

Huh? What course might that be? :-)

In psych class they recognized they were both mentally ill.

Nope. You pay them, they check your weapons and rounds, and they hand you eyes and ears and you start shooting.

There’s really no possible way to “check” anything at a range

In psych class, anyone who comes out of the course thinking themselves free of mental illness didn’t do the work.

One thing that needs to happen is the mass murdering perps' juvenile records need to be unsealed! They were sealed, allegedly, just because they were underage at the time. The shot in the act dead perps should have zero remaining privacy rights and no claim to protect their past record. The perps taken alive but caught in the act should have their privacy rights revoked after their prompt convictions and sentence (why there is a 'massive' police investigation in El Paso when the facts are flagrantly obvious to al; the obvious evidence should get him to the gallows in a week.) The only reason to keep those juvenile records sealed to to protect some one(s) else's privacy. Those who's either actions or policies might have gotten him help (inpatient or out, voluntary or mandatory as needed) and gotten him into whatever mental health databases are used for gun purchase checks. Who should go into such databases, after what due process and what due process is required to get removed from such databases are important and controversial questions requiring prospective, logical and unemotional debate. But no one seems to deny SOME people belong in such databases and should at least be temporarily barred from guns. If they never get input they can't be blocked. If there are factors preventing them from being input that we can't study because of alleged privacy issues, even in the most egregious cases, how can we learn to correct that. Remove the juvenile privacy wall in these worst cases so we can learn to fix the system.

She may be a publicity hound, but I think that this does show a need for us to examine mental illness as a serious problem in our society. Also I think I’m seeing a trend in the younger generation of not being equipped to handle normal every day problems. There seems to be little moral compass, because anything goes. It’s a recipe for disaster.

She is demonstrating the problem perfectly by calling the media before the bodies are cold.
