Videos of New York Police Department officers being doused with water and pelted with objects in separate incidents surfaced on social media on Monday, including one clip that showed officers getting drenched as they were making an arrest.
NYPD officials called the videos “reprehensible.”
In one video, somebody hurled a bucket that hit an officer in the head while he was making an arrest in Harlem. Groups of jeering bystanders could be heard reacting as people continued to splash the officers with water.
“The videos of cops being doused with water and having objects hurled at them as they made an arrest in #Harlem is reprehensible,” NYPD Chief Terence Monahan said in a tweet on Monday.

If I were a cop, why would I want to go where I clearly was not wanted or valued. Moreso, I’m putting myself and partner in danger of assault and battery by folks who don’t think they have anything to lose. Folks who take being jailed as “Juss one-a those things thass gon happin’ sooner or later,

What are the practical choices? Private Security, Neighborhood Vigilante, National Guard?
Or, just giving them a Safe(enclosed) Place to shoot and rob each other to the point of their own extinction.
The last option would be a sad sign that normal folks had given up trying to make the troubled areas any better.
All the kids growing up in such areas would know the feeling of being seen as hopeless. And thus seeds the next generation of lowlifes.

Well, let’s have some ROE. Flipping arresting officers off is tolerable disrespect. Throwing things is not. Cursing is tolerable. Spitting or urinating on them is not. This started long before DiBlasio was around; David Dinkins let them run wild during the Crown Heights riot decades ago - and that was when many of those that thought the blight of the late 60s and 70s would eventually pass finally realized it never would.
NYC is a perfect example of what happens when millions with no stake in anything, who contribute nothing, are given the right to vote. When this country was created, the Founding Fathers understood this, so only taxpayers (at that time, property owners) could vote. The death spiral of NYC steepens because as normals flee the disaster that has been created, the city reaches further and further into the Third World to replace them.
400,000 people live in public housing in NYC. Think about that.
Are there bad cops? Yes of course there are but there are bad Doctors. Bad lawyers, bad Judges and on and on.
You are amazingly short sighted in your view of the police.
You and I both know if you are faced with extreme danger you will dial 911 for the police to save you.
You claim the police are “alienating the public.” Tell us in what way and please cite examples in numbers which would constitute a trend.
