A British-flagged oil tanker was seized by Iran on Friday night and was heading towards a Revolutionary Guard base, in a major escalation of tensions along one of the world's most vital oil shipping routes.
The Stena Impero had been en route to Saudi Arabia but made an abrupt change of course and began moving towards the Iranian island of Qeshm, according to data relayed by maritime tracking services.
The ship went dark, meaning its identification system was turned off, at 16:29 UK time and nothing has been heard from her or her 23 crew since.
Northern Marine, a Clyde-based subsidiary of the ship's Swedish owner Stena AB, confirmed that a hostile action had preceded the vessel's change of course on Friday afternoon.

LOL!
It’s like asking the security guard at that Amaco gas station to get back a car that was stolen after it left the BP.
I dissagree. You can't equate their vacillating on Brexit to a military response.
Pretty soon you'll see them in uniform on the decks of their ships saying "God bless the Queen" before they sail off and give someone a royal butt kicking.
Have the Iranians been invited to tea yet?
*** Is the UK going to expect us to come in and help? ***
When the UK seized Grace 1 on July 4th, and Spain protested the seizure, the UK said they seized it at the urging of the USA.
So why aren’t these tankers being escorted by naval vessels?
We just proved we can take down one of their drones through electronic means. I would be willing to wager we have other abilities to to render their facilities null and void.
Do the obammy soccer mom chant.....Im counting to 10.....one...two.... If the Iranians want a dust up...stop and capture an American warship....keep tightening the sanction screws....the sand jerks will run out of tanker parking...
> Let England handle it. <
The last I heard, the UKs only aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth, had no aircraft. But Nelsons old flagship, the HMS Victory, is still under commission. She mounts 104 cannon, and one of her fearsome broadsides would sink any small Iranian patrol craft.
Lets just hope that no Iranian ship or aircraft fires back.
Re #36:
Correct.
Oil prices not changing much. It’s at 55 with 42 the 52 week low and 76 the 52 week high.
The Somali pirates have been quiet because Russian outfits have been running Kill A Pirate tours. Not kidding - they are literally running people out on trolling expeditions to bait pirates to attack, which allows the paying customers to shoot the pirates.
Where’s Obama when you need him?
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but there is a reason Kerry et al spent so much time in Iran. There is no doubt in my mind they are helping to direct this. Push Trump into a war with Iran, and then blame it all on him canceling the Iran deal and “sanctioning” them into desperation, and then war (you can hear them-everything was just fine with the deal in place!). POTUS is a smart man and I hope that in the absence of Iran attacking American interests directly, he sits back until there is a substantial international outcry for U.S. intervention in the region.
Iran backed down and released the Mesdar after giving it a “safety warning”

British Navy is on the Way ...
Heard on Sean Hannity radio show, on Patriot channel, that the count is now up to 4 tankers seized by Iran.
> Not our fight, let the Brits handle this and stay the hell out of it <
I tend to agree with you. But let me present this scenario to you: One of the seized ships flew the British flag. Lets suppose that Iran refuses to return the ship. Weeks pass. You are the POTUS. Britain invokes the NATO an attack against one is an attack against all clause, and asks for significant US military support to punish Iran.
What would you do?
To say no would be to make NATOs mutual defense clause toothless. But maybe thats just where we are these days.
Why would Iran cooperate with elements of the US government in a way that would see their country devastated by war?
