Republican support for Trump rises after racially charged tweets: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Support for U.S. President Donald Trump increased slightly among Republicans after he lashed out on Twitter over the weekend in a racially charged attack on four minority Democratic congresswomen, a Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll shows.

The national survey, conducted on Monday and Tuesday after Trump told the lawmakers they should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” showed his net approval among members of his Republican Party rose by 5 percentage points to 72%, compared with a similar poll that ran last week.

Trump, who is seeking re-election next year, has lost support, however, with Democrats and independents since the Sunday tweetstorm.

Among independents, about three out of 10 said they approved of Trump, down from four out of 10 a week ago. His net approval - the percentage who approve minus the percentage who disapprove - dropped by 2 points among Democrats in the poll.

The comments are NOT racist at all. The statement is merely "If you don't like the United States, go back to where you came from or leave the country." No racism there. Just right or wrong. You're right if you stand for the values and respect the anthem/flag/leadership. The other view is wrong.

It's more than that- he said, ""So interesting to see "Progressive" Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came here from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere into the world (if they even have a functioning government at all),now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. It’s not President Trump’s fault that the anti-Americans at which the tweet was directed happen to be “women of color.” The same tweet could be directed to others. It has nothing to do with color or race.

Trump simply tweeted something that has probably been on the mind of at least 95% of Americans at some point in their lives. A lot of folks would consider it almost self-evident.
