Republicans Have No Plan If Obamacare Is Struck Down. Some Don’t Think It’s Even Possible.

The threat to do away with Obamacare is once again on the rise nearly 10 years after it was passed, as a major challenge to the health care law got a sympathetic-sounding hearing in a federal appeals court this week.

If the case does ultimately reach the Supreme Court, and five justices agree to strike down the Affordable Care Act, experts say it would upend the U.S. health care system and strip health insurance from an estimated 20 million people. Many millions more would lose crucial protections they might need in case of catastrophic medical issues ― including coverage for those with preexisting conditions.

Republicans in the U.S. Senate don’t appear to be sweating the likelihood of such a scenario, however. Some are pinning their hopes on the courts to reject the challenge, which is backed by the Trump administration, on the grounds that it isn’t serious and is legally moot.

Then why was the age arbitrarily set at 26 for coverage under parents plans? Why not 30, if the goal is to increase to pool of healthy people?

Until about 1960, which it has averaged 2-3x the rate of inflation increases each year. It’s gone from 3% of GDP to 20% with no better outcomes.

Since the mandate was removed, how can it be called either a ‘tax’ or a ‘fine’ if you are not ‘required’ to pay it?

Exactly. Which is why I think the Republican belief that the Supreme Court will not strike down Obamacare is badly misplaced. It's entirely possible that they will kill it next June. Or before that, if they refuse to take the matter up.

No, it was purchased in 2011 by AOL that was purchased by Verizon in in 2015. So unless Verizon goes bankrupt, HuffPo will not either.

Would marginally help. We need truly make it more of a free market by enforcing anti-trust in markets and insurance, allowing drug re-importation, requiring pricing to be posted, and tweak the patent system. Allowing insurance sales across state lines would help to some degree.

We don’t have a free market in healthcare, even pre-ACA, which is why costs have been increasing at 2-3x the rate of inflation since 1960.

Bingo - amazing how many people don’t realize that. Private healthcare insurance is not insurance. Disaster coverage for healthcare would be real insurance.

FAKE NEWS.
Republicans certainly do have a plan, designed to overcome all of the horrors of Obamacare.

Most people by 26 are working and covered by their employers plans. People 18-26 are more likely to be either unemployed or in college without a healthcare plan.

If they do then why is Trump saying he'll be unveiling his latest version of his health care plan some time next month?

Sooooo, I’m asking myself these days not so much about what is in these various “stories,” but exactly who is writing them and why should I care (especially with huffpo) and guess what I find out re “Igor Bobic?”

Mr. Igor, is a 32 year old Bosnian (maybe Muslim] recent graduate from U. Cal. at Irvine, ”in charge of politics” at huffpo, with parents still living in San Diego, CA.

Maybe he’s buddies with “Sandy Cortez,” the bartender, telling me what I should consider important, at least at huffpo!

It is my view that the Democrats have precious little to run on.

There is an across the board effort to ressurect the dead healthcare issue into a topic for discussion. There are polls suggesting healthcare is an issue but there is no clear thought about what to do about it.

There is really no there there

What are Republicans supposed to do, so long as a majority of the American public appears to believe that:

1) Healthcare is a RIGHT, and
2) Somebody else should pay for it.

??????

Roberts killed Obamacare by finding the weak legal link

I don't see how it's possible to construe it that way. He allowed it to be a "tax", which the O administration had claimed it was not.

It was one of the most bent and tortured political opinions of all time that he appears to have changed to believing at the last minute.

He could have destroyed it with one vote. He didn't. He tortured this country for eight years with an insurance company debacle that hurt far more people, companies, and medical care than it helped.

We can argue semantics until the cows come home, but the reality is that there is still a provision in the ACA that requires every American to have health insurance.

Whatever your threshold for “limited” assistance is there will always be somebody that just misses and the libtards will capitalize on that opportunity every time.

I suspect it was because they wanted to set the age at a point where college graduates would be included in the insurance pools even if they wanted to go to graduate school before they got their first “real” jobs.

I just sent back to the IRS a form they sent me to fill out because I did not answer the question on my 1040 form as to whether or not we had health insurance in 2018.

I told them no, this time.

They say I MUST pay ‘my fair share’, $2085, but cannot collect it unless I have a refund due me, which I haven’t had in years.................
