Democratic-run House will decide Tuesday whether to put at least 300,000 Indian contract workers on a fast track to valuable green cards, so incentivizing more low wage Indian graduates to take U.S. jobs from middle class American graduates.
Roughly 108 Republicans have co-sponsored the green card giveaway, called HR.1044, the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019 even though the Democrats legislation is backed by Silicon Valley investors who oppose GOP.
Democrats also have kept the legislation secret the bill has had no hearing or committee votes and it is being quarterbacked by the immigration lawyer who helped Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer write the disastrous Gang of Eight amnesty in 2013.
snip
These 1.2 million foreign workers are eager to take Americans jobs at low wages, in part, because the federal government also allows employers to nominate them for hugely valuable green cards. Companies save a fortune in salaries by offering this taxpayer-funded bonus to their foreign contract-workers.
Companies have also used this green card process to create an extra army of roughly 350,000 contract-workers in the United States. Under federal rules, the short-term contract-workers become long-term indentured workers once their employers file the green card application. This subservient work-and-wait legal status continues for years until the contract-workers get out of the backlog once they get green cards and become legal immigrants.
Employers love [because] this is an astonishing subsidy for tech employers this bill would extend that [backlog and indentured service] model This will turn the entire employment-based immigration system into the indentured-service model, a source told Breitbart.
These two armies of 1.5 million contract workers take prestigious jobs in healthcare, business, engineering, software, teaching, research, journalism, in Silicon Valley, in the fashion industry, in universities and even cutting edge, computer chip manufacturing companies.

How long ago was that?
Right now, we are having difficulty filling positions. Chinese, Eastern Europeans, and Indians are able to fill the gaps.
With all due respect, Did you actually read the article? It is very informative and might change your POV.
Your anecdotal experiences are not necessarily representative of all work places. In fact, I have anecdotal experiences that reflect the opposite in terms of talent and ability.
And look at what happened recently with BOEING...cheapout on foreign coders paying them $9/hour and you get bad code thta contributed to the safety issues...Ironic because they could have used top grad students at Univ. of Chicago, UIC, or UofI since BOEING is headquartered in Chicago area.
So you have the 411 on what US graduates want to do with their tech degrees? Please provide some data...I have 3 that don’t design web pages or phone apps and their wages have been tamped down by the indentured H-1B/green card system.
Interesting that basically your argument that Indian tech workers will do the work US tech workers won’t...is the SAME argument that was and IS being used to justify ALLOWING ILLEGALS (AND LEGALS) to flood in from our southern borders...
No one is saying foreign workers are not nice people; Same can be said about the migrants too. However, the Indian workforce (which is unlimited) have kept It salaries down, and we are incentivising the indentured workforce culture with expanding these programs.
Between 30% of South America coming here, AI, and an unlimited supply of cheap Asian labor, I truly worry about how US Tech professionals are supposed to make a living in the future...How do they pay off their loans with low-paying jobs?
If you beg to differ, simply don’t make the calls, but you won’t convince me (or many here) that this legislation is Making America Great in any way....It is NOT a good idea.

That’s just one country. Just one. Multiply 300,000 by all the other countries on this world.
Here’s a crazy idea. How about we give the jobs to US citizens?
Everybody is complaining about hiring.
My phone has been ringing continuously from 8 AM to 6 PM for the past 4 months.
There’s a lot of staffing folks chasing a small number of jobs. When the staffing firms have failed, the employers have internal recruiters calling the same candidate pool, over-and-over.
I just chased off an internal recruiter while typing this reply. After 100 calls from their preferred staffing firms, I don’t want to hear from them.
With the last contract-to-hire opening presented to me, I asked them to put in writing what contract-to-hire meant. Haven’t heard from them since.
When employers open their office in the hip downtown area, they forget one thing: Candidates don’t want to commute there. That hip downtown office is nothing more than a subtle form of age discrimination.
Employers learned a lot of bad habits under Obama’s ‘rule.’ Until the employers start showing something other than intransigence, the jobs are going to remain open.
I see jobs open for years. Simply as waste of time to apply to such openings.
If you look at dice.com today, you may see 80,000 tech job openings proudly listed on their website. In reality, the number of real openings may be only 10 percent of whatever dice claims.
I’m sorry, but I don’t buy the high-tech candidate shortage anymore.

What a revolutionary idea! A MAGA idea...
What if we had border wall too ;)
There’s one Canadian on Disqus.com, who goes by the handle of ‘Mark.’
Mark looked at US Berkeley’s job placement numbers for STEM. He thought 30 percent of those recent graduates where not employed.
Mark also noticed quite a few heading to graduate school. How many of those graduate students stayed in school, since there’s no work?
Is there not one Texan “representative” that did not vote for this crap samwich?
I suppose that’s one way to go purple or is it blue.

I suspect most of the GOP in favor of this bill are in safe seats. This is another no-cost vote delivered to the GOP donor class and another middle finger to Main Street USA.
Make it more expensive to hire a foreigner to do a job and companies will only hire foreigners who really are stars and thus worth the money or for areas where we have a critical shortage of skilled workers. That way companies can get the foreign talent they actually need. What they wont be able to get is cheap labor. Youd see company training programs start up again real fast.

My son graduated with Engr degree in 2009 and found a real dearth of really well-paying jobs. He did what you said...went back to school~on to grad school after working some contract positions...Now has PhD in CHem E...A lot of foreigners in his field BTW. My other son is an Elec. engineer—has MS and works in San Jose and he is the only “native” American in his work dept.
They see the results of “talented” foreign workers first hand...Yes there are some smart people, but an IT worker from India or China is no guarantee of brains.
This bill is not MAGA—it is a US citizen middle class destroyer. And the Dems have turned this into a race issue with Indians organizing and lobbying pols.
Wish there was someone who represented American citizens...

Just took a gander at the Texas rep. district map and it’s a real eye-opener.
Pretty much a huge chunk of the state as a whole.
Middle finger...... more like a giant donkey kong.
I did not mean to insult you but I guess you are right all we have is hope. These kind of stories make me so depressed. I hate the R’s so so much.
DC, forcing foreign influences upon USA for many score years. Giving USAians jobs to people from other countries. USA interests, unaligned with DC. DC a land foreign to USA.

How do I know? Spouse took early retirement and decided to go back to work—consultant STEM field—Not nearly as easy as thought it would be...Mnay of same jobs shopped by different “recruiters” who could barely speak English...One company wanted to pay $30/hour no benefits...my spouse has PhD and years of experience...The firm was placing Indians in Pharmaceutical research.
Fortunately, found an AMERICAN recruiter who valued the education and experience and found a wonderful position, work from home, etc. Not sure how often that happens these days.
PEOPLE, PLEASE CALL YOUR REPS, THIS IS NOT MAGA BILL!!! THIS IS PAYOFF FOR BIG TECH CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLS :(
I just called my rep. NO calls coming in today. No one knows? Cares?
Folks, better make some noise or email the President.
This is being voted on today and it is under the radar
Seems that—all that is being talked about and posted about is Epstein.
Wonder if there is a coincidence there...
I did not mean to insult you but I guess you are right all we have is hope. These kind of stories make me so depressed. I hate the Rs so so much.
I have forwarded the article to family and friends. I would suggest, no urge you to do the same. Still time to call...Not sure when the vote is being taken.
Next step is to call the White House/Email Trump.
Remember the song “Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing”...? Pete Seeger wrote it. Peter, Paul, and Mary sang it.
Don’t want to be singing “Where have all the Tech jobs gone? Long time passing...” then
