UK regrets leak of memos calling Trump administration 'inept'

Britain said on Monday it had contacted Washington to express regret for the leak of confidential memos in which its ambassador described U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration as “dysfunctional” and “inept”.

The memos from Kim Darroch, ambassador to Washington, were divulged to a Sunday newspaper, annoying Trump and embarrassing London.

“Contact has been made with the Trump administration, setting out our view that we believe the leak is unacceptable,” Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesman told reporters. “It is, of course, a matter of regret that this has happened.”

Trade minister Liam Fox, who is visiting Washington, told BBC radio he would apologize to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, whom he is due to meet.

“I will be apologizing for the fact that either our civil service or elements of our political class have not lived up to the expectations that either we have or the United States has about their behavior, which in this particular case has lapsed in a most extraordinary and unacceptable way,” he said.

I am sure that US diplomats have been just as blunt about foreign governments and politicians.

All they regret is the leak!

...exactly my first thought. How stupid do they think that Trump and his supporters are?

Roger that. They regret getting caught. And what smarmy, BS language they use in attempting to put it in a better light.

The EUrophiles in the British civil service certainly find it useful. What better way to serve their cause than to alienate Britain from the US in order to scupper a potential trade deal and force us back into the embrace of Brussels, or so they assume...

Agreed! I see no apology for the remark itself, therefore May probably really does believe the Trump administration to be inept.

In a couple of months Trump will still have a job while May will be sitting at home weeping over how she carried the water for the anti-Brexit team and they dumped her just because so was so ... inept.

According to today’s Telegraph, Theresa May has said she stands by the ambassador and will not recall him. That woman is a certifiable idiot.

I’ve always wished we could have completely cut ties with them after the revolution and never became allies. Or at least became allies just temporarily for WW2 and then cut ties again. Bunch of pompous, untrustworthy snobs.

That woman is a certifiable idiot.

Insulting a host country
A very stupid move
Even more stupid for leadership to publicly support it

Theresa May is not serving her country well...
Unless her intent is to purposefully abandon the
Historically close relationship

Two can play that game...

The only thing they regret is getting caught. So glad we kicked their limey butts back across the pond a couple hundred years ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Sir Kim must be recalled, sacked or reassigned by the Brits.
Trump and his administration cannot work with him. It’s that simple.

Only the little guys who make honest mistakes.

For the big guns, a 'mistake' enhances their resume.

Look at Zucker at CNN.

He almost destroyed NBC late night talk shows with is Conan/Leno fiasco and yet CNN hired him.

His career should have been OVER and yet CNN picked him up.

When will they apologize for their role in creating the Fake Dossier? They should be billed for the cost of the Mulehead Investigation.
