On social media, the country seems to divide into two neat camps: Call them the woke and the resentful. Team Resentment is manned—pun very much intended—by people who are predominantly old and almost exclusively white. Team Woke is young, likely to be female, and predominantly black, brown, or Asian (though white “allies” do their dutiful part). These teams are roughly equal in number, and they disagree most vehemently, as well as most routinely, about the catchall known as political correctness.
Reality is nothing like this. As scholars Stephen Hawkins, Daniel Yudkin, Miriam Juan-Torres, and Tim Dixon argue in a report published Wednesday, “Hidden Tribes: A Study of America’s Polarized Landscape,” most Americans don’t fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest—including a general aversion to PC culture.

There is no effort to bisect the “majority” into the readily known groups we know about. We know that 35% of voters are conservative and 21-25% are leftists. These percentages have held for over two decades and they almost always deliver.

Very true post. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked a white person why they voted for Obama, only to have them sigh and say, “I thought if we had a black president, the constant whining and complaining of blacks would finally stop.”
Well...so much for that.
The word “woke” is used to mean that someone has become “enlightened”—that is, they are now very PC, liberal, and condescending. According to Urban Dictionary, “Woke” is “The act of being very pretentious about how much you care about a social issue.”
There is a related slang phrase, “Get woke, go broke.” This refers to businesses that decide to advocate the PC culture and lose business as a result. An example would be the recent decision of Gillette to pander to the gender-confused movement and losing sales as a result.

And despite a college degree, hobbled by a room-temperature IQ, enabled by decades of the now-Resentful being too kindly or cowardly to say, “That is a DUMB IDEA, girl! Shut up, sit down, and at least TRY to learn something.”
The horrible irony is that if the now-Resentful had just been able to resist the temptation to try to “fix” the world after WWII, we wouldn’t have to deal with these idiots now, as their grandparents would have starved to death or died from some nasty tropical disease decades ago.
God, I hate that I’m even *thinking* these thoughts. But that’s how I became a Resentful, I guess; by first having Team Woke shove its stupid ingratitude in my face.

I think a huge milestone for accelerating the PC abomination was GWB foisting the Muslim religion on us. It’s the “religion of peace”. We have nothing to fear from them. We must accept them. I blame him for about 75% of the crap we’re dealing with now, including the mutts sitting in Congress.
Grandpa used to say that “Roosevelt sold us down the river.” I say that about Bush.

PC started out benign. Don’t call people fat, retarded or crippled. Then it became thought shackles on all of life and culture.

Once the liberals found out that they could exploit PC to divide people it became weaponized into the go-to political tactic of the Left. Inevitably it morphed into a tyrannical tool to control people.
The PC movement has been politically productive for them. But they got intoxicated with its success and didn’t know when to put rational limits on it. Instead it became a wildfire that is turning back on them.
Most people are sick of the PC bullies and ridicule their ridiculous extremes.
I agree with what you are saying—I would not dare discuss politics with strangers—it is too risky.
However, most people _really_ don’t want to discuss it, not _just_ because they don’t like potential snowflake emotional land mines, but also because they really don’t _like_ politics.
