Americans Strongly Dislike PC Culture
The Atlantic ^ | 10/10/18 | Yascha Mounk

Posted on 07/06/2019 5:59:01 AM PDT by ek_hornbeck

On social media, the country seems to divide into two neat camps: Call them the woke and the resentful. Team Resentment is manned—pun very much intended—by people who are predominantly old and almost exclusively white. Team Woke is young, likely to be female, and predominantly black, brown, or Asian (though white “allies” do their dutiful part). These teams are roughly equal in number, and they disagree most vehemently, as well as most routinely, about the catchall known as political correctness.

Reality is nothing like this. As scholars Stephen Hawkins, Daniel Yudkin, Miriam Juan-Torres, and Tim Dixon argue in a report published Wednesday, “Hidden Tribes: A Study of America’s Polarized Landscape,” most Americans don’t fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest—including a general aversion to PC culture.

Most members of the “exhausted majority,” and then some, dislike political correctness. Among the general population, a full 80 percent believe that “political correctness is a problem in our country.” Even young people are uncomfortable with it, including 74 percent ages 24 to 29, and 79 percent under age 24. On this particular issue, the woke are in a clear minority across all ages.

In spite of The Atlantic's overall liberal bias, the author concedes an important fact: that the "woke" OccupyWallstreet, Antifa etc. types are the fringe of fringes. His breakdown of 25% committed conservatives vs. about 8% "wokers" is probably correct. I know plenty of people who usually vote for Democrats who still find PC censorship absurd and Antifa activists repellent.

The fact is, the vast majority of Americans are not political junkies or particularly ideological. That's why incumbents of either party tend to win re-election unless the economy tanks, and then many people who voted Democrat wind up staying home or voting Republican (or vice-versa), just to get a new face in office. And even those voters who are "political" tend to be so only about one or two issues whereas everything else is negotiable. I think that the real reason we no longer get landslide elections like Reagan vs. Mondale isn't because the population at large is that much more polarized, but because the non-polarized majority can't decide who to vote for or against.

What does this mean for the 2020 election? It means that if the economy is doing well, Trump will probably be re-elected by a comfortable though not huge electoral vote margin, especially if he runs against a shrieking extremist calling for slavery reparations or "abolish ICE".

If you don’t discuss politics at all—and just listen to what those around you are saying—you will find that almost no-one else pays any attention to it.

That is easy to forget—most people are busy just living their lives and just don’t care about public policy stuff unless it is in their face and affects them personally and directly.

So what does this group look like? Compared with the rest of the (nationally representative) polling sample, progressive activists are much more likely to be rich, highly educated—and white. They are nearly twice as likely as the average to make more than $100,000 a year. They are nearly three times as likely to have a postgraduate degree. And while 12 percent of the overall sample in the study is African American, only 3 percent of progressive activists are. With the exception of the small tribe of devoted conservatives, progressive activists are the most racially homogeneous group in the country.

And yet these are the people who think they know what's best for "the poor" and for "people of color."

This is the key section - this is not shocking at all but it gets little airtime:

Exactly - that's why so many people either don't bother to vote or vote for the incumbent when things are going OK, and then vote against the incumbent (regardless of party) during a recession. Ideology or specific issues have little if anything to do with it.

We haven’t had even 65% eligible voter turnout for 100+ years, the number of folks who choose not to vote outnumber the turn out for either political party in presidential elections and outnumber both parties combined for congressional, state and local. The dumbest people who somehow manage to vote supposedly decide all elections based on who can sway them that cycle if what they say about the 10% of eligible voters that are swing voters is true.

PC started out benign. Don’t call people fat, retarded or crippled.

Then it became thought shackles on all of life and culture. It must be dismantled, first by mockery and then by confrontation.

I’d go further and say that if the author’s numbers are correct (8% “progressive activists”, 25% committed conservatives, everyone else either apolitical or in the middle), then much of the 25% - including many of us here - are who they are as a predictable and justified reaction against all of the damage that the 8% have caused or tried to cause.

When you combine this article with the MSN article about Trump’s excellent position for re-election, this indicates the Hoax News Media is getting very worried that any of their candidates will be crushed, but the far lefties more so than Biteme.

I think this is a giant “Tone it down, guys, PLEASE”.

https://www.amren.com/news/2014/09/ten-percent-is-not-enough/

... For almost 150 years the United States has been conducting an experiment. The subjects of the experiment: black people and working-class whites. The hypothesis to be tested: Can a people taken from the jungles of Africa and forced into slavery be fully integrated as citizens in a majority white population?

... The experiment has failed. Not because of culture, or white privilege, or racism. The fundamental problem is that white people and black people are different. They differ intellectually and temperamentally. These differences result in permanent social incompatibility.

... Our rulers don’t seem to understand just how tired their white subjects are with this experiment. They don’t understand that white people aren’t out to get black people; they are just exhausted with them. They are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, the excuses, the reflexive animosity. The elites explain everything with “racism,” and refuse to believe that white frustration could soon reach the boiling point.

Liberalism has always been a form of condescension, i.e. “we, your social and intellectual betters, know what’s best for you better than you do.” No wonder most “woke” trouble-makers are spoiled trust-fund brats.

PC is a means to an end dreamed up by Karl Marx.

Political correctness is different from (and in some ways more malignant than) classical Marxism. PC was created by the Frankfurt School and their disciples in the mid 20th century. The Frankfurt School "intellectuals" fused Marxist pseudo-economics with Freudian mumbo-jumbo and later incorporated various racial and sexual identity politics. That's why Bernie Sanders, with his emphasis on class warfare, can't break 15% in any Democrat primary polls. He harks back to classical Marxist that's now passe among the race and sex-focused "woke" types.

The Worst Enemy of Black People
By Walter E.Williams
January 2, 2019

Malcolm X said: “The worst enemy that the Negro have is this white man that runs around here drooling at the mouth professing to love Negros and calling himself a liberal, and it is following these white liberals that has perpetuated problems that Negros have. If the Negro wasn’t taken, tricked or deceived by the white liberal, then Negros would get together and solve our own problems. I only cite these things to show you that in America, the history of the white liberal has been nothing but a series of trickery designed to make Negros think that the white liberal was going to solve our problems. Our problems will never be solved by the white man.”
