Trump Is Losing His Own Trade War
Reason ^ | 7/4/2019 | VERONIQUE DE RUGY

President Donald Trump likes to keep score. Well, here's a score for him: America, zero; while the rest of the world keeps tallying up free trade points. That's right; while American consumers have been waiting for well over a year to see some resolution to the various trade disputes started by Trump, other countries have agreed to lower their tariffs against each other and signed free trade agreements with one another. Meanwhile, American consumers and exporters are drowning in a sea of high tariffs.

Some of Trump's supporters have argued that the president is actually a free trader who wants lower tariffs all around. Well, if that's the case, he has succeeded in a way. Everyone is getting lower tariffs—everyone except U.S. consumers, that is.

I am over 91 years old.

I have worked in an industry that served manufacturing companies since and during the Truman presidency ending during the G. W. Bush period.

So I have had extensive business experience during the years we sold and dealt with our fellow Americans as well as the years beginning with George H. Bush.

And I am here to tell you that the years before G. W. H. Bush were far better years that the years that followed.

The years before the Bush sellout to the globalists were wonderful rears.

President Trump is going to create an even better economy.

Those who rant about the wonders of global trade know not what they are talking about.

If “free trade” were truly free trade, maybe it would work, but reality is that the world is made up of nations who have all forms of economic systems that do not allow free trade.

The outstanding examples are countries who operate under socialism and communism, and all of the various shades of government manipulation between that and free capitalism.

It is reality that our trade policies must take into consideration the economic systems of the countries with whom we are dealing and adjust our policies accordingly.

i don;t know if he’ll win or lose, but I am very thankful PDJT is at least trying to fix our trade problem.. its VERY VERY serious

we SHOULD be able to set up more equitable trading relations, especially with Communist China (which is our biggest problem now...) and its wonderful that Pres Trump is trying

America is a commercial zone to these types, not a nation.

“VERONIQUE DE RUGY”? *ROTFLMFAO*

Anyone with a name like “Veronique” who has gone through life without a shorter, more normal sounding, nickname ... is a stuck up douchebag.

Well, with China’s and some of Europe’s pig population falling seriously ill with the porcine version of Ebola, they’re going to need to find pork somewhere. They refuse to trade with Canada, and that doesn’t leave many options, especially when considering that their crops haven’t done well this year either. They’re facing a food shortage if they don’t make up the difference.

This is a very fine column, exactly what you expect from a French educated little elistist Beltway twit like her. The Trump Haters, and she is clearly one of them, are quite upset that our President is not bending to the will of the Administrative State. He should be surrendering to the Chinese and the Iranians just like Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett. Those consumers that she so loves deserve the lives of misery that was being delivered by the Washington Establishment. This is the song of the privileged, losing their power. They are not happy.

American consumers and exporters are drowning in a sea of high tariffs.

Talk about BS globalist hyperbole. Trump raised tariffs on $250B of Gookistan imports a "whooping" 10%. LOL! 10% of $250B is $25B annually. Wow such a threat $2B/mo. $2B/mo doesn't even move the GDP needle.

Lies and scare tactics.....

If the USA ever really had a social “safety net” it was not welfare or unemployment insurance. No, the safety net was being able to pick shift work at the local manufacturing plant when times got tough or little Timmy needed braces.

Mass produced durable goods will be still be cheap even if made in the USA. That is the whole point of mass production. The question is the profit margin that the greedy corporatists seem to crave.

Please don’t misunderstand - I am not advocating keeping the status quo.

Change is inevitable and, like the tides, cannot be stopped even if you want to.

However, not everything changes very quickly. Manufacturing/mining/production is still being done - just not here anymore. Let’s get it back here.

There is a need for tradesmen to be plumbers, electricians, builders, etc. Let’s get these people trained for that (as you have alluded to I think).

At any rate, my only look in the rear view mirror is a thriving middle class that can live their lives decently, provide for their children and provide for their future years. However that can happen.

Theoretically tariffs raise prices but in this case with so many middle men between the far reaches of China and the Wally World store shelf in Declineville, USA the tariffs are being eaten by many many of the globalist cartel ticks.
