President Donald Trump likes to keep score. Well, here's a score for him: America, zero; while the rest of the world keeps tallying up free trade points. That's right; while American consumers have been waiting for well over a year to see some resolution to the various trade disputes started by Trump, other countries have agreed to lower their tariffs against each other and signed free trade agreements with one another. Meanwhile, American consumers and exporters are drowning in a sea of high tariffs.
Some of Trump's supporters have argued that the president is actually a free trader who wants lower tariffs all around. Well, if that's the case, he has succeeded in a way. Everyone is getting lower tariffseveryone except U.S. consumers, that is.

Uh huh, sure.
I’m glad we’ve got a president who is a hundred times as smart as these yahoos
In my opinion Trump’s reason for trade war is not the dollar imbalance but rather the espionage and intellectual property issues.
The Suck-ification of Reason continues... /influx of suck.com people.
The author seems to forget we are finally imposing tariffs on the countries that already have trade tariffs on our products. We are winning.
The real loser is CHINA.
Uraguay! Paraguay! Argentina! Oh my.
Everybody else is winning and the US is losing, according to this lady nobody ever heard of.
Only fools, and losers, look only at the bottom line. Because there is often more than meets the eye when looking exclusively at just one segment of an issue.
Here’s my suggestion. Reason.com should take the time to interview some of the thousands of American workers who lost their jobs when their factories moved to China. That would perhaps provide a little balance to the article.
The Humpty Dumpty bin of "A word means exactly what I want it to mean. Nothing more, nothing less."
Libertarians... pffttt... make me.
I’m not feeling any negative impact from the US imposed tariffs. The excerpt posted sounded like propaganda, so I didn’t read the article to see if they tried to back up their claim.
Typical globalist Koch bros Bush libertarian nonsense.
So, if she was President, what trade deal would she sign for the EU and Paraguay that is better than the Trump EU, Paraguay trade deal?
They buried this very important point at the end, as an offhand comment. Trump is telling American business - stop relying on China and be very careful what technology you send there.
30+ years of unequal trade with China will not be fixed in 1 year.
I don’t know what is right and what is wrong regarding trade. It is very complex and many crosscurrents as well, including political crosscurrents.
The real answer is to let the ‘invisible hand’ determine trade flows, money flows, information flows, but that is never going to happen; simply not realistic.
But I will say that however it is accomplished, the United States needs to largely produce what it consumes, especially in critical areas like steel, rare earths, etc. And having a large and vibrant middle class is absolutely essential.
Without the middle class, the USA will exist in name only.
Garbage from the Libertarians.
Lighten up, VERONIQUE!
