After 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris attacked former Vice President Joe Biden during the first Democratic presidential debate for opposing busing in the 1970s, it sparked a larger conversation among candidates about whether the federal government should return to forced busing to integrate America's schools.
I support the busing, Harris, D-Calif., said Sunday to reporters. The schools of America are as segregated or more segregated today than when I was in elementary school. And we need to put every effort, including busing, into play to desegregate the schools.
Harris isn't the only 2020 presidential candidate to weigh in on federal court-ordered busing. Sen Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said that she wasn't opposed to federally mandated busing as an option and Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., said on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that while busing is an "option," it is better to focus on fair housing legislation.
"Busing is certainly an option that is necessary in certain cases, but it is not the optimal," Sanders said. "Does anybody think it's a good idea to put a kid on a bus, travel an hour to another school, into another neighborhood that he or she doesnt know, that's not the optimal. What is the optimal is to have great community schools which are integrated."
Although Harris was able to undercut Biden at the debate, is stressing mandated busing forward a winning strategy in the Democrats' drive to win back the White House?
According to Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, busing was an enormously unpopular practice that went several steps too far.

I personally know TONS of democrats that HATE absolutely HATE bussing! In fact it was bussing that made many of them vote for Reagan to begin with !
The left isn't believing their polls.
I had a buddy who moved to the suburbs rather than put up with that crap. His kids lunches were stolen by the new kids. Another time there was an incident involving kids in Auburn, Ca. My nephew was sitting in a car with his dad and thanked him for not raising him there.
mandatory busing
reparations
raise taxes
massive illegal immigration
shut down fossil fuels
raise taxes
********
I tell ya....that's a winning ticket right there.
Is the sarcasm tag really needed?
If they are not careful they will have more "D"s changing to "R"s even after the election...
These idiots will grasp at anything any one of them suggests in an attempt to not be outdone. And this will be their undoing.
This is lunacy down to the least common denominator. To re-propose a 45-50 year old policy that was an abject failure is the height of insanity. A policy popular with no one except a fool with no knowledge of history.
Next week it will be mandatory euthanasia at 70 to divert funds to support illegal aliens.
Everyone hated busing; blacks and whites alike. Blacks hated being driven miles away from their homes to schools where they didn't know anybody. It hurt their ability to participate in extracurricular activities and also hurt parental involvement; particularly single moms who had to work all day and couldn't drive across town for parent teacher conferences. And it really sucked if a kid forgot his lunch or got sick and needed to come home.
Whites, of course, fled the cities for the suburbs. Many argue this left the cities to decay when the taxpayers vanished. It was a disaster all the way around.
There is no constituency calling for a return to busing. Nobody.
I was under the impression that the pigressive left was moving in the direction of resegregation and “no whites allowed.”
Don't forget free healthcare for illegals! What's not to love!
I don’t see why it would hurt them. Their constituencies will love the idea. White soccer moms will be thrilled with the idea that their little angels will be getting culturally enriched by the vibrancy. Either that, or they will be silent out of fear of being called racist. No votes will be changed by this.
Busing = Removing parents involvement in their kids’ local schools = More Govt control without any parents involvement
I hope each and everyone of them comes across as the jackasses they are.
Donkey Implosion 2020!!!!
Harris wasn’t “bused”.
Her “new” school was two miles away from where she lived. Hell, I walked further than that to school.
Not with vote harvesting. You wait until the election is over to see who didn’t vote. Then you vote for them.
Thanks Drew68. Hey, why not do what the Demwit Guvnah of Virginia did and make all the kids wear blackface? And anyone who objects, gets a nighttime conjugal visit from Virginia's Lt Guvnah, whether they want it or not.
Marxism good, Busing bad, got it.
They are all trying to "out woke" each other. Ask if we should pay reparations to trannies and they'll all raise their hands! Refundable tax credits to illegal immigrants to pay for the cost of their travels? They'll all raise their hands! "I think that's a great idea!"
The eventual nominee will never be able to pivot to the center for the general election. Trump will eat them alive with a million quotes, tweets, and soundbytes they freely provided. "Republicans Pounce!" will be the headline.
All the Democrats had to do was not be crazy. That's all. Instead, they doubled-down on total batsh*t nuttiness.
Well, if your viewpoint is that black children are simply incapable of learning unless they are in the presence of white children then you must support the busing idea.
It's getting hard to follow.
Forced busing...country without borders...every live birth a cosmic failure...free health care for anyone but United States citizens...afterthought, what the heck, free health care for United States citizens too...end the health insurance industry...end the coal mining industry...free education, even if we no longer teach anything worth learning...well, it might as well be free...start LBGT sex education at three years of age and jail anyone who doesn't go along...what have we missed?
Since the MSM supports every one of these positions, what is there to be nervous about?
